Rosie
Beaton speaking over the phone to Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi.
Rosie:
Now you have a great song as we know its called Weir. And its the
debut single for you since you've ahh gone out on your own with
ah record company representation.
Ella: Yeah... yeah.
Rosie:
And umm and you've got an album coming out soon which you're working
on at the moment called reflector.
Ella: Yes, yep. We've actually finished work on Reflector so that's
good. It's all put away in a vault. We're just working out when
we're going to release it. Probably the end of the year we hope.
Rosie:
Uh hah - a new millenium album.
Ella: yeah, could be *lol*
Rosie:
And with Weir, the song's about friendship... Are you primarily
umm the song-writer of of Killing Heidi?
Ella: Yeah pretty much. It's it's a collaborative thing between
me and Jessie, my brother, who's the guitarist, and me. And he he
takes care of the musical side of things, and I do the lyrics. Yeah.
Rosie:
And umm have you found like when you were unearthed by triple j
a couple of years ago umm as part of as representing the Goulbourn
Valley where you live. Umm, you were only 13.
Ella: Yeah
Rosie:
And you're now 16.
Ella: Yep
Rosie:
You're an amazing umm lyricist.
Ella: Thankyou.
Rosie:
Have you always had a talent for writing? Are you are you great..
like you're still at school, you're in year 11.
Ella: Yeah
Rosie:
Umm...Are you, are you absolutely amazing at ahh English and History?
Ella: Ahh ha hah! I love English. Yeah, my Dad's an English teacher,
and my Mum was like a drama teacher and.. So I have a lot of that
influence, and I always always wrote. But I dunno, its just I wouldn't
know whether I'm great or just average but I just love to do it.
Rosie:
Well you've got a bit of a flair for it I'd say.
Ella: haa, thankyou. *hehe*
Rosie:
Growing up in the country, do you really honestly feel that there
is nothing to do for kids or did you actually turn that around and
and make it happen for yourself?
Ella: Yeah, that's exactly it. You know, you just think ah well
either I'm going to go crazy, start playing football, or make something
for myself. So Jess and I we were like we always loved music, so
we were fine, we just like, fine this is what we'll do... And its
been so good to us, like it's taken us so far.
Rosie:
And what made you choose the title 'Reflector'?
Ella: Umm, ahh, Reflector, that actually came about when we were
in the studio recording, we were like ah well we'd better get around
to a name soon, yeah, and I think like at the end of that very conversation
we came up with 'Reflector'.
Rosie:
Just a reflection on life overall?
Ella: Yeah, yeah it is general. And some friends say, you could,
you know, you could be so post-modern with that, and I'm like 'Ahh,
I dunno whether I could take it that deap, but, yeah *hehe*. It's
a good word.
Rosie: You have been described ahh as the voice of an angel, and
I and and I would have to agree with that. As a vocalist are you
classically trained or you a natural?
Ella: No, no, I've never had a singing lesson.
Rosie:
You've never had a singing lesson in your life?
Ella: I lie. I had one, but I couldn't do the warm up exercises.
*lol*
Rosie:
That's astounding!
Ella: Yeah
Rosie:
So you don't have to do any exercises? You're just a pure natural
voice?
Ella: Yeah I guess so.
Rosie:
Everyone I'm sure from the Net 50 audience, everyone votes for you
each week.
Ella: Great.
Rosie:
Do you do you, does Killing Heidi have a web site to look forward
to in the future?
Ella: No I don't own one, but there's a few out there. I was having
a look today actually and there's a few web sites out there for
us, but I don't think we've got our own one up and running, but
we will soon...
Rosie:
I'm sure when the album's released umm at the end of the year you'll
definately have an official one very soon.
Ella: Yeah, yep, it's going to be good, I'm working on it.
Rosie:
Great to talk to you Ella: and congratulations
Ella: Thanks a lot ... okay..
Rosie:
Bye
Ella: Bye
