- The Killing Heidi Realm: Alice stays away from Heidi
When Killing Heidi visted Alice Springs on
December 14, Alice Springs again turned its back on an award-winning
Australian band, missing out on a great all-ages concert.
They stayed away in droves when the band played the Alice Springs
Memorial Club on Saturday night - just like they did when Human
Nature was here earlier this year.
Only 385 people turned up - strange, considering two years earlier
Killing Heidi was the Memo's biggest draw when it attracted 1780
people.
One has to feel for the Memo boss Dave Hunt who has tried to address
the problem of "nothing to do in Alice Springs" by staging
quality concerts.
Unfortunately, the whingers are the ones who stay away.
As
if the poor crowd numbers was not enough of a slap in the face for
all concerned, the band's first five songs (Burnt, Mascara, To Fly
and Live Without It) were ruined by sound feedback problems.
A red-faced Ella Hooper, the band's effervescent frontwoman, apologised
for the sound problem. When fixed the band whipped the crowd into
a frenzy with songs from their debut album Reflector and the follow-up
Present as well as some B-sides.
They even treated Centralians to the gutsy rocker Ammyl, a song
Ella hinted as being the band's next single.
Hooper, who recently had a cyst removed from her throat, may have
pushed herself too hard as her voice appeared to nearly give out
while singing Weir during the encore.
Ella
said the band would love to come back, though from a financial stand
point, it would seem unlikely the Memo Club would want them back
again.

24Dec2002 - The Killing Heidi Realm: Acoustical Killing
Killing Heidi performed a fantastic acoustic
set to a sold-out crowd at the Cornish Arms hotel in Melbourne.
Those in attendance (including myself) were treated to an arrangement
of rare Killing Heidi songs as well as old classics.
The
set-list included Katrina, Pins and Needles, Up and Down, Teen Angst,
Real People (a different version, with only Ella and Warren on bass),
cover songs including Gravel, Sympathy for the Devil, a selection
of songs from Present, KH-classics such as Superman/Supergirl, Weir,
and their unearthing song Kettle.
Performance
time ran for 1hr 20min, with the whole show being recorded, so it
may (or may not) be possible for future use as B-sides etc. ..photos
coming soon!
Speaking
with Warren afterwards, he mentioned the band were heading to Singapore
in late January, followed by London, and then to Japan by Valentine
Day.

- The Killing Heidi Realm: Heidi goes to the Trot's
Australasia's best pacers and trotters will
race for $1.3 million at Moonee Valley's Nights Of Glory in February.
Harness
Racing Victoria launched its marquee carnival yesterday with the
news that chart-topping band Killing Heidi has been recruited
to complement the racing.
Following successful Vanessa Amorosi concerts at the past two Nights
Of Glory carnivals, Killing Heidi will give a one-hour concert
at Moonee Valley on Hunter Cup night, February 22.
The first of Nights Of Glory's three feature race nights will be
highlighted by the $250,000 Victoria Cup, regarded as harness racing's
Cox Plate, on February 8.
The meeting will also feature the cream of the three-year-old pacers
from Australia and New Zealand in three heats of the Victoria Derby.
The
$100,000 final of the Derby will the main racing attraction of the
carnival's second night on February 15.
Killing Heidi's concert should help ensure a big crowd at the Valley
for the $400,000 Hunter Cup and the $100,000 Australasian Trotting
Championship on February 22.
HRV
has also set a theme for the three feature race nights, starting
with Heroes Night on February 8. That meeting will include a parade
of champion pacers, trotters, gallopers and greyhounds.
Former Neighbours starlet Krista Vendy will be the face of Nights
Of Glory, with support from the sport's new golden girl driver,
Jodi Quinlan.
