Heb 10:26 For if we
sin willfully after that we have received the
knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, Ro 3:25 Whom God has put forward as the sign of his mercy, through faith, by his blood, to make clear his righteousness when, in his pity, God let the sins of earlier times go without punishment; It is so clear here Paul is talking about sins that are past, not all new sins. Do you really believe our Father God who's name is righteousness will condone sin in any form? Do you think there will be a heap of sinners in heaven? When we are saved (or preserved) at conception in Christ, that doesn't mean we are already past the post. No, far from it actually. The race needs to be run till the end as Paul said. What saved clearly means is; saved from the condemnation of ALL sins that were past, and saved from COMMITTING future sin through the power of Christ. Saved from the second death, so long as we continue in our new life in paths of righteousness. We have been made pure now, clean and fresh, and if we are in Jesus we are to remain that way. 1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. What this means is that if we are TRULY born again, the Holy Spirit convicts us of this sin and we do not DESIRE to sin against God. If we keep the commandments of Jesus, then this will be so. Now, on the other hand, suppose we go along with the mainstream belief that we have a free pass into heaven if we believe in John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. This is indeed a great verse, and vital to our salvation, but it must be understood clearly. Don't just say "oh great, I believe in Jesus, now I am saved...thank you Lord...I love you Lord." First UNDERSTAND what message is given. This verse is the most misunderstood in the bible, and is the most commonly used by the false teachers. First lets look at the critical words here: Believe; If we REALLY believe, will we not sin? If we REALLY believe, will we keep His commandments? If we REALLY believe will we take up our cross? The answer has to be YES to all. If you are not doing the above, then you simply do NOT BELIEVE! Now once you truly believe that Jesus is the Christ, then the last thing you will want to do is sin against Him, the One who freely laid down His own life for you...right? Yes of course you do, and this is how we are "made perfect" in Christ, by obeying Him (conviction of Holy Spirit) and not sinning anymore. We are new creatures in Christ, that is to say...not of this world, so stop holding on to this world by doing worldly things (sin), and allow Jesus to make you new. Son: Next look at the word Son (Jesus). Is it Jesus you believe in, or could it possibly be your pastor/teacher or any other that teaches you contrary to the scriptures. For instance, the Catholics believe in their priest and their Pope and Mary to tell them the truth. Many believe in their parents for the truth. Many believe in the doctrine of their church for the truth. Many believe in a false prophet for the truth. And many believe in their carnal thoughts for the truth. But Jesus clearly said He is the truth. Jesus saith unto
him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me. John 14:6 Should: Some have "may"...same thing. (NIV has "will") This is a tricky one and needs a little more explanation. Simply put...if you believe on Jesus with ALL your heart, mind, soul, and STRENGTH, you will find the TRUTH that leads to eternal life. The strength plays a crucial part here, meaning we need to overcome our bad tendencies and die to flesh and the world. It takes great strength to do this as we saw with Paul the apostle. Now if the great man himself struggled...shouldn't we also? As Peter put it; 1Pe 4:18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? Isn't this telling us there is more to just professing Christ? If we fail to overcome the world and our flesh for righteousness sake , then we fail Christ! Sorry, there is no soft way to put it. So in plain and simple language this is telling us that IF we believe with pure hearts, and IF we listen to Christ and not man, and IF we are obedient by keeping His commandments, then we WILL have eternal life. And remember ... the two NEW commandments Jesus gave us did not nullify the ten, it simply means by keeping these two, you have already kept the ten. For example, if you love God, you will do what pleases Him and keep the Sabbath day holy, and if you love your neighbor, you will not steal from him. So the answer is yes, most assuredly, grace can expire if we are not obedient to the one who gives it! Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. Don't follow another man's opinion, follow the man Jesus who is now God Jesus, and who dwells in you via the Holy Spirit. Listen, He is telling you to obey Him, imitate Him, and keep His commandments. He is telling you not to sin anymore and follow the way of the world, or you will suffer the same fate as the world, but instead follow His way...the way that leads to eternal life Please note: Overcoming sin, although difficult, has many rewards. It is God's way of knowing you are since ... and what does He do with such people? He calls them His own i.e. grafted into the family of God, becoming part of the new Israel. If you fall, i.e. sin at a week time, then all is not lost, just show sincere remorse and start again. Many times we may fall before we can walk soundly in the paths of righteousness, fully utilizing the gifts from God, so don't give up ... finish the race so your Father in heaven will be pleased with you.
