This lecture was prepared by Dr Mathew Lancaster mainly, all I have added is a little commentary.

Once saved always saved?

Luk 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be Saved.

Many Christian folk are in this type of ground. The devil comes in the form of light and robs them of the truth, and because their faith is weak and their hearts not pure, it is easy for Satan to lead them astray. They ware the mark of the beast without even knowing it, and are against God without even knowing it. Gods mark is the Sabbath that was made before the foundation of the world. But that is another lesson we will get to at a later stage. But this passage alone shows that salvation can be lost, so it's time to get serious with our God.

Rev 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Now here we have salvation not coming until a certain time. When is this time? It is a time when the devil has been defeated and all books will be opened and all will be judged by their works. Not now, or next week...but when GOD say's it will happen.

Mat 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. (Now this word is SAVED in Aramaic, but is sodezo in greek meaning  preserved)

This clearly tells me one thing…that if I must endure, then it wont be easy…do I endure driving a porche…or do I endure riding a bike and use the money from the porche to feed the poor.

So WHO is preserved? He who endures to the end…that’s who. So we need to endure what? I thought all we have to do is pray the sinners prayer, say we believe in Jesus…and that’s it…Poof! We are saved. Well lets just continue some more and see what God says about this.(by the way…where is this sinners prayer in the bible…hmmm?)

So what are we preserved from?

Well in Rev 2:11 we see:  He that hath  an ear,  let him hear  what  the  Spirit  saith  unto the  churches;  He that overcometh  shall not  be hurt  of  the  second  death.  (OF here being a preposition meaning BY)
In the aramaic it says LIVE, therefore agreeing with the greek word sodezo. So we can see it is the second death that we shall not be hurt of…saved from so to speak.

It very clearly states that the preserved that are spoken of here, are ONLY the ones that endure or overcome to the end. And what does overcoming mean? It means dying to the flesh and overcoming through Christ the desires and acts of our sinful nature. No more sinning folks. So if we still continue to sin…can we still be saved? Well I guess that depends what side notes Jesus has put in your account in the book of life. I wont personally enter in…Jesus is the Judge there, but I would be seriously worried about that book. It don’t look good for any who continue in sin after knowing the grace of The Lord Jesus, that’s for sure.

Now in Mat 19:25 When  his  disciples  heard   it, they were exceedingly amazed,  saying,  Who  then  can  be saved?    This in response Jesus telling them how difficult it is for a rich man to enter into heaven, as the rich man is very vulnerable to secular wishes. And this also shows that wordly matters can be a barrier to salvation, even loosing it.

Mat 24:13 But  he that shall endure  unto  the end,  the same  shall be saved.    What end? well the word theilos means indefinitely. So they who endure indefinitely…the same shall be saved…or preserved if you like. So we also see clearly, that salvation has not been given until the fat lady sings, at the end.

Sofar we have seen that the question Is once saved = always saved is a definite No, no.

In Mat 24:22 And  except  those  days  should be shortened,  there should no  flesh  be saved:   but1161 for the elect's sake those  days  shall be shortened.  So what flesh? The word used here is Sarxs meaning human being. So in other words…except those days be shortened…no humans would be preserved. So who are these elect? Well I thought by now it was perfectly obvious…THOSE WHO ENDURE TO THE END…INDEFINATELY!

Mat 27:42 He saved  others;  himself   he cannot save. Again the word here is  sodezo meaning preserved or rescued .and if  he be  the King  of Israel,  let him now  come down  from  the  cross,  and  we will believe  him.  And in Mark 10:26 And  they  were astonished  out of measure,  saying  among  themselves,  Who  then  can  be saved?   And again in Mark 13:13 And  ye shall be  hated  of  all  men for my name's sake:   but  he that shall endure  unto  the end, (infinite that is)  the same  shall be saved or  preserved from that second death. Again we see that Marx also says infinite. Till the end of your life.

And in Mark 13:20 And  except  that the Lord  had shortened  those days,  noflesh  should be saved or preserved. But  for the elect's sake,  whom he hath chosen,  he hath shortened  the  days.

Mark 15:31  Likewise  also  the  chief priests  mocking, said among themselves  with  the scribes;  He saved  others;  himself  he cannot save. Again the word  sodezo is used meaning; preserved or rescued.

Now in Mark 16:16 it says; He that believeth  and  is baptized  shall be saved (or preserved)

But  he that believeth not  shall be damned.  So here we see that one’s BELIEF and BAPTISING, protects from the second death, spoken of before. (the word baptidzo is used, meaning water baptism, or fully wet), so the believe has to be endured or maintained infinite, or to the end of your life.

Luk 1:71 That we should be saved ( and the word here is sotayreeoh, meaning rescued or protected physically or morally ) from  our  enemies,  and  from  the hand  of all  that hate  us;

Luk 7:50 And  he said  to  the  woman,  Thy  faith  hath saved thee;  go  in  peace. (again the word sodezo is used meaning preserved or made whole which is the third meaning)

Luk 8:12   Those  by  the way side  are  they that hear;  then  cometh  the devil,  and taketh away  the  word  out of  their  hearts,  lest they should believe  and be saved. So again saved, only comes with belief.   And also we see here that the ones who believe are the ones that will be protected.

Luk 13:23 Then  said  one  unto him,  Lord,  are  there few that be saved?     And the answer was that MANY shall seek to enter, yet many will find the door closed.

And in Luk 18:26 also the question was asked; “And  they that heard  it said,  Who  then  can  be saved?”

Luk 18:42 And  Jesus said  unto him,  Receive thy sight:  thy  faith  hath saved.   (again Saved is coupled with faith)

Luk 23:35 And  the  people  stood  beholding.  And  the  rulers  also  with  them  derided  him, saying,  He saved others;  let him save himself,  if  he  be  Christ,  the  chosen  of God.

Joh 3:17 For  God  sent  not  his Son  into  the  world  to  condemn  the  world;  but  that  the  world  through  him  might be saved.   Might be saved, not will be saved. The only bible version I know of that has “will be saved” is the NIV…and plz correct me after if I am wrong . its only those who endure that will be saved.

Joh 5:34 But  I  receive  not  testimony  from  man: but these things  I say,  that  ye  might be saved.   So there is that word might again.

Joh 10:9 I  am  the  door:  by  me  if  any man  enter in,  he shall be saved,    and  shall go in  and  out, and  find  pasture.  Now here we have the words; shall be saved. Why? Because when you actually enter into Christ, is when you have received Him as spirit, as He promised, after He can see that your heart is pure for Him, and not only professing by tongue. Jesus knows the pure from the lukewarm, and that’s why He says if any enter in, because entering in is proof of the Holy Spirit that convicts overcoming and dying to the flesh. So if you see evidence of the Holy Spirit in people by their fruits, then you know that they have entered in, and shall be saved.

Act 2:21 And  it shall come to pass,  that whosoever shall call on  the  name  of the Lord  shall be saved.    Note here that it does not say just the LORD, it says name of the LORD. Mentioned in Greek it is KUREEOS meaning GOD himself. And in Aramaic it says MARYAH, the LORD YAHWEH. So here again we see that we only can call him LORD YahWEE or MARYAH, if we believe that Jesus is GOD. This is therefore a fundamental truth. If one can NOT call JESUS GOD or YAHWEH, then one can not be saved.  So any belief system that can not call Jesus God, do not agree that all authority is with Jesus, and  therefore they cannot be preserved or saved. A hard statement, and sad for many, yet very clearly said.

Act 2:47 Praising God,  and  having  favor  with  all  the  people.  And  the  Lord  added  to the  church  daily such as should be saved.   So here we have yet another auxiliary word with saved. This time its should, so we can now see the meaning of what Jesus said in Mt 22:14  For many are called, but few are chosen. And it is also interesting that the BBE (bible in basic English)version chose to translate this in its true meaning, the meaning Jesus intended as…Mt 22:14  For out of all to whom the good news has come, only a small number will get salvation. Most believe that the called are all that have ever been born, and the chosen are all that profess to believe, and this could turn out to be a huge salvation decision for these people as it leads to lukewarmness.

Act 4:12 Neither is  there salvation  in  any  other:  for  there is  none  other  name  under  heaven  given  among  men,  whereby we  must  be saved.  So again it is only by faith in Jesus, the Lord Maryah that one can be saved.

Now in Acts 11:14 we read; Who  shall tell  thee  words,  whereby thou  and  all thy  house  shall be saved.    So its by teaching the WORD of God, that faith and belief comes that brings salvation or preservation, as mentioned. So it is by faith that comes through teaching the word, that brings salvation, which is shown in Acts 18:8 And  Crispus,  the  chief ruler of the synagogue,  believed  on the  Lord  with  all  his  house;  and  many  of the  Corinthians  hearing  believed,  and  were baptised.  Now I here some say its the word that saves, and some that say its by the holy spirit, but it seems it is a combination of both, as Jesus promises the comforter to those who believe which will put the truth on their hearts, and it is also the word, as mentioned here in acts. One can have the word via study in a bible college, but without the Holy Spirit from Jesus, it is of no use to them, because Jesus was clear that the comforter is promised to those who believe.

Act 15:1 And  certain men  which came down  from  Judea  taught  the  brethren,  and said, Except  ye be circumcised  after the  manner  of Moses,  ye cannot  be saved.   Which was contrary to the Teachings of Jesus and the apostles.

But in Acts 15:11 it says; But  we believe  that through  the  grace  of the  Lord  Jesus Christ  we shall be saved, even as they.    Here we see that one is preserved by the Grace of Jesus, the Greek word here is GIFT. It was a gift from JESUS that we have to nourish and keep till the end, by listening and doing HIS will. And this will is defined in the word of God, and the presence of the Comforter, the Holy Spirit.

Act 16:30 And  brought  them  out,  and said,  Sirs,  what  must do  to  be saved?   Meaning to be saved from the second death. The last death.

Act 16:31 And  they  said,  Believe  on  the  Lord  Jesus  Christ,  and thou  shalt be saved, and  thy  house.

Act 27:20 And  when neither  sun  nor  stars  in  many  days  appeared,  and  no  small   tempest  lay on  us, all  hope  that we  should be saved   was then  taken away.

Act 27:31 Paul  said  to the  centurion  and  to the  soldiers,  Except these  abide in the  ship,  ye  cannot be saved.

Rom 5:9 Much  more  then,  being now  justified  by  his  blood,  we shall be saved   (because we are justified) from  wrath  through  him.  This mentions that that gift to us was executed, justified by HIS blood.

Rom 5:10 For  if,  when we were  enemies,  we were reconciled  to God by  the death  of his  Son,  much  more,  being reconciled,  we shall be saved   by  his  life.

Rom 8:24 For  we are saved   by hope:  but  hope  that is seen  is  not  hope:  for  what  a man  seeth,  why  doth he yet  hope for?

Almost finished these verses…so bare with me.

Rom 9:27 Isaiah  also  crieth  concerning  Israel,  Though  the number  of the  children  of Israel  be as the sand  of the sea,  a remnant  shall be saved:    Now almost all see this remnant as being the Israel as a country, but I see it as those in Christ, as Jesus was called Israel, so any in Him, are also Israel. But that would have to be another lecture down the track a bit. Don’t include this in lecture…here we see that a remnant of the Jews also will be preserved.

Rom 10:1 Brethren,  my  heart's  desire  and  prayer  to  God  for Israel2474 is,  that they might be saved.  The word sotayreeah is used here meaning  rescued.

Rom 10:9 That  if1  thou shalt confess  with  thy  mouth  the Lord  Jesus,  and  shalt believe  in  thine  heart  that  God  hath raised  him  from  the dead,  thou shalt be saved  Again KURIOS is mentioned meaning GOD himself.

Rom 10:13 For  whosoever shall call upon  the  name  of the Lord  shall be saved. Again here it says also the name of the Lord.

Rom 11:26 And  so  all  Israel  shall be saved:    as  it is written,  There shall come  out of  Zion  the  Deliverer,  and  shall turn away  ungodliness  from  Jacob:

Now we move to   1Co 1:18 For  the  preaching  of  the   cross  is  to them that perish foolishness;  but  unto us  which  are saved  it is the power of God, and here we have again it is the power of the cross, and it is this power that we don’t see anymore in the churches.

1Co 3:15 If any man's  work  shall be burned,  he shall suffer loss:  but  he  himself shall be saved;    yet  so  as  by  fire.

1Co 5:5 To deliver  such a one  unto Satan  for  the destruction  of the  flesh,  that  the  spirit  may be saved    in  the  day  of the  Lord  Jesus.

1Co 10:33 Even as I please  all  men in all  things, not  seeking  mine own  profit,  but  the  profit of many,  that  they may be saved.   And once more yet another auxillary word “may” is used. Are we getting the true picture painted and inspired of God yet? I hope so brothers and sisters, for your benefit this needs to be clearly understood.

1Co 15:2 By  which  also  ye are saved,    if  ye keep in memory  what  I  preached  unto you,  unless ye have believed  in vain.  Boy, we have enen more auxiliary words…2 in fact…if and keep. These are cruicial words friends…small by size, but huge by meaning. Please keep in memory the truth of this verse…its your salvation at stake here…gbu.

2Co 2:15 For  we are  unto God  a sweet savor  of Christ,  in  them that are saved,    and  in  them that perish:

Eph 2:5 Even  when we  were  dead  in sins,  hath quickened us together  with Christ, by  (grace  ye are  saved;)   or by the gift ye are saved, so make sure you have this gift from The Lord, and act it out in obedience that you will be saved. Amen.

Eph 2:8 For  by grace  are  ye saved    through  faith;  and that  not  of  yourselves:  (and it says it plain and simple here)…it is the  gift  of God:

1Th 2:16 Forbidding  us to speak  to the  Gentiles  that  they might be saved,    to fill up  their  sins  always:  for  the wrath  is come  upon  them  to  the uttermost.  There is that word "might"  again guys…mmmmm.

2Th 2:10 And  with  all  deceivableness  of unrighteousness  in  them that perish;  because they received  not  the  love  of the  truth,  that they  might be saved .  So it is the love of the truth that saves also….why I wonder? Could it be that the love of the truth means ALL the truth, an untwisted truth, and not just a few verses that can be manipulated by man and encouraged by the rcc to justify their unwillingness to overcome, and lead many others down their same road…the wide road that leads to destruction?

1Ti 2:4 Who  will  have all  men  to be saved,    and  to come  unto  the knowledge  of the truth.  So we have to COME to the knowledge of the truth, because we don’t have the truth carnally. We can only have this truth in Jesus, and Jesus is particular who He gives this to…remember earlier….endurance,  overcoming, a pure heart…etc.

1Ti 2:15 Notwithstanding  she shall be saved    in  childbearing,  if  they continue  in  faith  and  charity  and  holiness  with  sobriety.  Again mentioned is if…they continue, and holiness with a pure heart. Wow, there seems to be a different or new light beginning to shine here. All these auxiliary words to team up with the word saved. Wonder if any pastors and preachers know these words. So your children will flourish in the truth only IF you CONTINUE in faith.

2Ti 1:9 Who hath saved    us,  and   called  us with a holy  calling,  not  according  to our  works,  but  according  to his own  purpose  and  grace,  which was given  us  in  Christ  Jesus  before  the world began,

Tit 3:5 Not  by  works  of  righteousness  which  we  have done,  but  according  to his  mercy  he saved us,  by  the washing  of regeneration,  and  renewing  of the Holy  Ghost;

1Pe 3:20 Which sometime  were disobedient,  when  once  the longsuffering  of God  waited  in  the days  of Noah,  while the ark  was a preparing,  wherein few,  that is,  eight  souls  were saved  (deeazodzeo=rescued) by  water.

1Pe 4:18 And  if  the  righteous  scarcely  be saved,    where  shall the  ungodly  and  the sinner  appear? Wow this is such a short verse, but power packed by every letter. Think about it…if the righteous just make it by the skin of their teeth…then what hope is there for the unrighteous? So looks like 90% of Christians need to go back to the drawing board guys, even I am getting a new message as I preach my own study. I am serious too.

2Pe 2:5 And  spared not  the old  world,  but saved  (or rescued) Noah  the eighth  person, a preacher  of righteousness,  bringing in  the flood upon the world  of the ungodly;

Jud 1:5 I  will  therefore put you in remembrance,  though ye  once knew  this,  how that  the  Lord,  having saved    the people  out of  the land  of Egypt,  afterward  destroyed  them that believed  not. Does anybody here have the notion they are immune to the wrath of God. Fear not any man, but fear God is my warning.

Rev 21:24 And  the nations of them which are saved    shall walk  in  the  light  of it:  and  the  kings  of the  earth  do bring  their glory  and  honor  into  it.

Conclusion. We are to begin with saved or preserved by the Grace of Jesus. Then..by hearing the word we come to the faith and believe in him. Then…we follow up his commandments, like baptizing etc..then..we don’t turn away from HIM, but stay or endure or persist in HIS ways indefinitely …then we will be preserved or saved.

Of all or the studies I have done…I see this as the most important as our eternal salvation is at stake, and many do follow the wide easy path while still professing the Lord Jesus as their saviour, instead of the narrow one that Jesus encouraged us to follow. If ever in doubt, just read the parable of the sower over and over again to see what Jesus is all about, and be that GOOD ground that can support growth that leads to eternal life…and allow Jesus to cultivate you that you might become holy in His sight, and one day, rule over nations in white robes. It requires much meditation and prayer and a deep love of not only who our Father is….but what He is…and that is a God of love mercy and grace that He would forgive you so you might turn fully to his will and even forgive others…amen and God bless you.
