Who is God?

Time is time, and God is God. God was the beginning before time; therefore He is the creator of time itself. If there were no time as we know it, would there be no God?   Of course there would be because God creates all things. Some say God IS time itself, but that would have to be in error because if that were so, then who created time. Or put another way...who created God? You see, God was the BEGINNING, and will be the end.  Well because we know time exists, then we should also know God exists. Something had to create time, and in this case it was God. Did time create God? No, I think not. So it was God, who was, and is, and always will be, that created time. And that is why His name is “I AM”, and that is who God is. He is indeed I AM, the alpha and omega, the beginning and the end. In a name...Yahweh.

Because God is Spirit, He is also omnipresent meaning he is everywhere. In the earth, the heavens and in the entire universe, but most important, because of the acts of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, He is also in you. Yes that is correct, He is in you, and all it takes is a little faith, the size of a mustard seed for Him to manifest, and come into your life and lead and guide you in paths of righteousness and the truth. God once said to me in a dream (the only time), “I will let you believe what ever you wish to believe, but there is only one TRUTH” I asked myself two questions; the first being if this message was for me or the world, and the second was; what truth is He talking about?

To the first question I enquired from a friend who I respected and revered as an honest and sincere person, who was frank but truthful with me. He showed me of a passage in the bible that says “ ACS 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. So this was clearly meant for the world, meaning that if you want to believe that God is just a figment of ones imagination, then so He will let you believe that, or what ever else you want to believe, but there is only one truth, and that is He is who He is, and if you refuse to acknowledge this, you will be lost. The only problem with all this is that I now don't believe we are in the last days spoken of in the bible as that was talking of the days before Jerusalem was destroyed in AD70.

Now, the truth God was talking about here is His ONLY truth, and there is only one of it. What He said in the beginning was for all time, and what He will say at the end has already been said. God never changes, and what He is saying here is not to listen to mans own opinion of God’s will, for man will take the perfect word and restructure it into a new meaning to suit their own carnal understanding, so as to fit into their own lifestyle that is pleasing to the flesh. So listen only to God who is planted on your heart, who gives you understanding only by being close to Him and in His favour. Only then can you be given the perfect understanding of His perfect word. How do you get close to God? By being sincere about your faith and being obedient to His word. If you pray with a sincere and humble heart, God will indeed feed you the right food. There is only one change God made, and He did that because man was so sinful. This was to bring in a new covenant that would provide true forgiveness for sin by coming to earth in the form of Jesus and giving His life on the cross to pay for all sin. Yes sir, He did this for you! Amen!

Now, back to the crux of this subject. God, because He is the creator, is in fact the Most High. Who wants to argue with the most high God? Who would want to mock the most high God? Who would want to go against the most high God? Remember He is the highest, there is none higher than Him to run to for shelter, so you can not expect to get protection from any other higher source, because THERE IS NONE ANY HIGHER. So I certainly would not want to get in His way, unless I was in His favour, so to do any of the above would be to commit eternal suicide, and that would be no fun at all. In fact that would be down right foolish. Just think of the length of the universe in the great expanse of time, and then fit your own puny lifetime (eg: 100 years or so} into that time, and now take a step back and see the size of your lifetime. Wow you can’t even see it can you, because it’s so small in relation to time (billions of years), and once its over, its gone. Kaput! So you only have one crack at it folks so make the most of it! It would be a huge and costly mistake, not to include God in your plans.

Have you ever felt sometimes that you are the centre of the universe? You know, like nothing else matters excepting you. Like so long as I am ok that’s all I care about, and others around me don’t matter, even the birds in the sky or the animals of the earth or even our planet earth itself. Yes of course you have so admit it. When I did, I soon realized how sinful I really was. However, there was some things I did excel in and I believe that was why my God called me, and the same goes with you my friend. So my friends, if you want to get some inkling to what God is, just take an honest look at yourself and that tiny bit of good that you can see is God. The rest of what you can see call what you like, but don’t call it God.

Now apart from God being our Almighty Creator who is the father of creation, and therefore our father, here are some major attributes I find describes God best to me.

1.          God is love. A love beyond all compare and understanding. A love that never ends, even to the grave, and even after that because He grieves to have to send the loveless souls to their final restless place in hell. A love that is unconditional and abounding. A love that never dies, even to the end of time. A love that put God’s only begotten son on a cross to pay the legal price for our own selfish sins that we might have hope of eternal life. This love of God is something He gives freely to those who ask of it, even though they don’t deserve it, and after giving it He wont take it away unless you ask Him to by turning your back on Him. This is a love of generosity in that He will give even more to those who hunger and thirst for Him, those who adore what He is, and those who are willing to suffer for His name sake. This love is called Agape love because there is nowhere else it can be found. It is His eternal reward that He offers to those who follow paths of righteousness and proclaim the name of the Son to be holy. Yes, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God , who has all authority to judge creation and rule as King forever. It is through the Love of God that in His mercy we have a chance of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Amen.

 2.         God is righteous As mentioned earlier; righteousness is also a part of the formula God used for His creation. Righteousness is the corner stone together with love that is an essential part of the deliverance Jesus offers freely to those willing. Righteousness is what becomes the foremost desire of a true believer in Christ, once that believer has experienced the agape love of God the Father. Why? Because Jesus has plated that desire on the believers heart in the form of the comforter (Holy Spirit) that He promised to send. Because God created all things in love and righteousness, and He is the king of righteousness, He has intended us to overcome iniquity and be likened to Him, to be a righteous and peculiar people. TIT 2:14 (Jesus) Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. Through the Holy Spirit of righteousness, we are able to see ourselves as we truly are, and we don't like what we see. Because of what we see, together with out love of God, is why we desire to be good, but it is not the way we are naturally.

 3.          God is just. God didn’t have to be just if He didn’t want to. After all He is the creator, He could do what ever He likes, but He didn’t. Because He is perfect He wanted His creation to have the ability to be perfect also, so He made us and everything else for that matter, according to a law. A law I call; “The Law of the Universe”, and this law can best be defined by; “What so ever you sow, so shall you reap”. This is indeed a just Law, and because of this law it becomes a legal process whereby nothing can be changed unless it falls within that law. A formula for the want of a better word. In other words, like the components of an equation cant change, so to, GOD NEVER CHANGES as He would be a god of hypocrisy if he did, and the formula would be faulty. For example; x+y=z, and anything we do to x and y must in the finish equal z. I like to think of it as x equal to love (Found in Jesus), and y equal to righteousness (being obedient to Jesus), and z is the outcome of the two, and in this case it would be eternal life under the rule of Jesus Christ the Lord of heaven and earth.  When I think of this it is easy to see how perfect this law is, and even more so how perfect is the One who created it. It is a just and perfect law that therefore gives everyone the same chance at life that in the finish we cant blame anyone else for our position.

Some may say; what about all the sick, starving, and dying children of the world. Well immediately I think of how great God is and who am I to question His reasons for this, but I do know that He is all wise and there is a just reason for it that is beyond my reason, so I accept it as Gods will, end of story. I don’t like giving opinions, especially when God is the subject, but if I were forced to, I would say they are all the product of their parents and their sins, and separation from God, which leads to the way of the world, and in turn leads to death. If the children are of the age to follow in the tendencies of their parents they too will follow them to death, but if they are too young to understand I believe God takes them home because they are innocent and have not yet committed a sin that equals death. Having said that I say again, I am not God, nobody will know the absolute truth about this matter, but all will know eventually one day that He is indeed a fair and just God, who in His righteous way (law) has surely given all the opportunity to know Him and come to Him through Jesus Christ, and have the hope of evading eternal death if they are obedient to Him. This is the way of a just and righteous God who loves His children (The faithful), and even though they sin (unrighteousness) He still made a way for salvation through His Son Jesus.

          4.         God is mercy. Well once we know that God is the awesome creator, and that He is all-powerful and all knowing, and perfect in everyway, we need then to take a look at ourselves. A real honest to goodness look. What do we see? We see a person with almost no power, very little knowledge or wisdom (although we all think we are), so vulnerable and gullible, more love for money and material things than our fellow man, and a person who never seems to tire of wilful iniquity in flesh and mind. Wow, is that really me?  Oh yes friend it is, but the only consolation I can offer you is this; “It is all of us also”, so you aren’t on your own. So we can now see two major things here.  God is great and perfect, and we are so miserably small and faulty. To think that God could even look upon us in our miserable state is one thing, but to forgive us of all our sins, no matter how ugly they are, and wash them completely away from Him and never to remember them again is a mercy that is beyond all comparison. We surely don’t deserve this mercy, for we know what we are, but He gives it freely to those who deem Him the one with all authority and are willing to let Him guide us in paths of righteousness, to the Glory of His holy name, and of course to the betterment of our souls. The more mercy we can show to our brothers and sisters, the more mercy God will show to us, and its through this mercy that He allows us to draw even closer to Him and in turn grow in Him that we might become pleasing to Him and reap our rewards. Thank you Jesus.

God is grace.  Oh such a renowned word, but how many really get the gist of all that this word means? Words that pop into my head like kindness, decency, mercy, charity, blessings, dignity, leniency, and honour to name a few. When someone does a good deed for us out of the kindness of their heart, when you hardly know them or don’t deserve it, we get all overjoyed and excited and grateful don’t we? We say, “gee you’re a great person, wow you can come stay at my place anytime you like good friend”. But if this same person took a bullet for us, we would sell our house and build a memoriam to him in appreciation, and mourn his loss with sad tears for the rest of our lives. Well a bullet is a quick way to go folks, but to be whipped, spat on, humiliated, tortured, mocked, and nailed to a tree and strung out to die in excruciating pain over a long period, purely to pay the price for another’s iniquity, that my friends is Grace personified. That is Jesus. And on top of all that Jesus said to the Father in heaven to “forgive us because we don’t know what we are doing. That is grace beyond all compare. Oh Jesus, such charity and leniency that we deserve not.

          God is spirit. He is the spirit of Glory that is omnipresent in all of creation; of which it’s total beauty is hidden from us until our day comes to be spirit also. Flesh and blood cannot enter heaven. Although we cannot see we still can feel and know that He is with us and will never forsake us according to His promise, so long as we remain faithful. His spirit is in the wild animals that will defend their young to the death that they will survive in number. His spirit is in the mother who is widowed and goes without food to feed her children.  His spirit is in those who help the poor and less fortunate, and also in those who suffer for the sake of God’s name. Although we cannot see the spirit of God, all we need to do is ponder creation itself and we will surely see it with a decisive view that will summon the very nucleus of our understanding, and this can further lead us to a closer walk with our creator. The spirit of God is what makes us happy when we see battler do well, or a thief get caught, or a baby smile, or creature give birth. Alternately the spirit of God is what makes us cry when we loose a loved one, or watch a sad movie, or see our children suffer. And so it is God who is happy and sad when He sees these things also, when He sees His creation suffer for their iniquity He cries, and when He sees over comers He is happy. So even though the Holy Spirit is invisible it still can be seen in creation if one takes the time to reflect with a pure heart and a reverence for God the creator of all things.   JOHN 20:29   Jesus said unto him, {Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed [are] they that have not seen, and [yet] have believed.}

God is joy. When one is without Christ one is indeed alone, because we are of the world and do worldly things. Worldly things are usually bad for us, like drinking booze, taking drugs, having multiple sex partners, and working and raging long hours etc. All these lifestyles eventually lead to depression, which lead to self hate. Joy sooner or later becomes a thing of the past as we fall deeper and deeper into our pitiless depression. We begin to look for other people in the same position as ourselves because we feel more comfortable with them being lowly people, hopefully lower than us. Boy, is this living or is this hell? I’m afraid it is living, but a life self generated by a lust for having fun and excitement. In the end we just want to die because we have totally lost sight of truth and direction. This is such a common occurrence today with the easy availability to having fun, and we just get caught up in it all and come to a sudden stop and wonder where we went wrong. This is only a temporary joy, even if it last most of a lifetime it is still only temporary. A permanent joy is found in loving one self, which cannot be found in a life of excitement and fun. Only by loving ourselves can we begin to love others and indeed love creation instead of taking it for granted. By trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ with all my mind, heart soul and strength, has rewarded me with the greatest joy I have ever experienced, and paved the way for even greater things to come. The realization of what Jesus has done for us, and the fact that He promised to wash away all our sins with His precious blood, only accentuates the joy that is felt in having a one on one relationship with Him. It's a marriage on permanent honeymoon.   And this joy will not only last this lifetime, but can continue for all eternity. Amen.

God is peace. In a world driven by greed, power, lust and money, it’s impossible to find any peace whatsoever. When one is greedy, one is always afraid of missing out on something, and when one is power struck, he is always worried someone will kill him off, and when someone is rich in earthly desires, they always want more, and so it goes on in a meandering fashion always searching but never finding peace.  And lust, the worst of all I believe, simply leaves you with the unfulfilled feeling and blocks the mind of it’s full potential, wasting away of good brain cells on something that cannot further growth in any shape or form. It can completely take over the mind like a cancer, forever crying out and craving for more and more, but never ever being satisfied, so much so it can lead to criminal acts and what peace is there in that. But God on the other hand offers freely a peace that is always totally satisfying.  A peace that continually attacks all negatives and replaces it with good strong soul building positives that can endure all of the stress this world can offer. Yes the peace attained by believing in the Son of God Jesus Christ, is a true peace, given freely by Him through the shedding of His blood for our sins, and will remain with us so long as we are walking in faith by forever being obedient to His will.

PHI 4:7     And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

God is wisdom. We all think we are the centre of the universe as mentioned before, and we all think we are smart and wise. Yeah sure, that’s why some people mess up all the time and some just a little. Some get to the top in a rush and some never get there no matter how many times they try. Some people choose bad partners and blame them for their own downfall, and just cant admit it was there own bad decision that was the cause. If you are wise, then you surely have the power to choose a good partner. So we all need to agree that no man is all wise, just dumb and dumber, and smart and smarter, or wise and wiser, but certainly not all wise. Wisdom is not something we are born with or achieved by our own means, but is something given by God Almighty at His own discretion. His discretion is in line with the law of the universe I spoke of earlier because God never changes, and never will either as He would be a hypocrite to change outside the bounds of the very law He created all things. And a hypocrite He is not!  We all have the ability to attain wisdom, but only according to the law of creation can it be attained, and this is by submitting to the Creator Himself who is also the creator of wisdom. He made it and only He gives it, end of story. To be in harmony with this law one needs to know the will of God, and we find this by submitting to Him and being obedient there after, and our reward of wisdom is depending upon our measure of obedience. The wisdom of God passes all understanding also, so don't try to find it by human ways.

God is the essence of life. Yes indeed, God is the fundamental nature of life, of which we were created in likeness to overcome the alternative forces of this wicked place, and proceed to our final resting place that is awaiting for the elect. If I were asked to give God a new name, it would be Love and Righteousness because I truly believe these are the ‘foundations’ of God, or ‘essence’ for want of a better word. On these two qualities He has created all things according to plan in His perfect law. If we build our lives on the true nature of God we will surely forever be satisfied. Just think of the possibilities here! Blessings in every facet of our lives, good health for all the family, wisdom to make right decisions and therefore morally and financially stable, harmonious in marriage and family, nothing to fear in the world, and beyond all that eternal life. Wow, don’t that beat all I ask you. All this and more is what is promised to those hunger and thirst for righteousness (God), and it is most surely achievable if one submits in total to the call and truth of our Lord Jesus, but remember this; God can tell if one is not sincere with ones submission. Nobody can fool God.

God is beauty. Most see God as an ugly, angry and grumpy old man who is always whining and moaning, never satisfied with us and always punishing us. This is a primitive observation that can be expected of those with no fear of God and even some that do fear Him.  Let me tell you of a parable that best explains it all in one package I believe.

Once there was an old and well-respected scholar in the word of God, who had spent all his time studying God and was very pleased with himself.  One day while in his front garden doing some weeding, he noticed a man looking at him from the sidewalk. He couldn’t help but notice how old, wrinkled and ugly this man was, and asked who he was. The man answered; “I am your God” cannot you recognize me? The scholar replied “But you are so old and ugly, I expected my God to be of beauty and splendour”.  God then went on to tell the scholar that he is indeed a master in the knowledge of the word, but if it is not put into practice it will always be a waste of time and effort, and then God left. The scholar understood this, and decided to change and put his knowledge into practice, but still kept on with his learning and not giving full attention to practice. Again God appeared to him as an ugly old man to which the scholar was disappointed and he told God he had done what He said and it did help him understand more with his studies, but why does He still appear ugly?  God answered, “If your eyes see things as distorted, is it that your eyes are sick, or is it the object you see? If you still see me as ugly, it means your soul is still sick because you have not yet put all your learning into practice. If an archer learns to makes his own arrows, does it mean he can hit the target without practice? If you learn method without practice, then you miss the essence of the truth”. The scholar totally understood now and in admitting his error, now spent all his time putting Gods teaching into practice. Years went by and the scholar became even more wise and revered by people all around the world, and became famous for his wise sayings and humble devotion to Gods work. Many years later in his old age he was again in his garden when a handsome young man came by and stopped to say hello. Beauty and splendour was radiant all about him, so much so the old scholar was taken aback by it all and bowed before him. “Why do you bow before me?” the young man asked. “Because you are the living God, the same one I saw many years ago, but through ailing eyes”.  And God said, “blessed are those who put my teaching into practice” and disappeared.

So my friends, that’s one way of seeing the beauty of God. It is not until you get close to God that you can see His beauty, and once close to Him, all it takes is a look at the sky on a clear night, or a walk in the bush, or watching the birth of your child, or watching the birds and animals, to see the beauty of God. Its there alright, but by being separated from God means only worldly things are apparent, but when joined to God through Jesus Christ, Godly things are apparent, and even more apparent if obedience to God is achieved.

God is harmony. The word harmony in the dictionary means in agreement or in accord with. Every aspect of God is in agreement with each other perfectly. Take the four corner stones for example, love, righteousness, justice, and mercy. You cannot be righteous without love, you cannot have justice without righteousness, and mercy is an ingredient of love also, and so on. It all fits perfectly together so harmoniously that one wonders how we could have ever been apart from God. Look also at nature and how perfectly it depends on all the elements. If you take a certain element out, it can very soon become desolate, and maybe even evolve into a hell on earth. Take the family also and subtract the mother for instance. Can the family work to its potential with missing parts like this? I think not, and the evidence is clear in society today with broken homes without fathers or mothers that are breeding a new age monster. God created nature and families to be in harmony, and that’s why He set guidelines that people today wish to ignore, so the residue is a monstrous world that is wallowing in its own matter. Man has decided (Through its so called psychologist’s and do good-ers, and lawyers) to set down their own set of rules that put a spanner in the works of harmony, and instead of the easy way of God, they choose their own vain opinions that in the end will lead to anarchy and total destruction lest God intervenes. But it is not all doom and gloom folks, the day is soon coming that the whole world will be as one in harmony again under the ruler ship of the Lord of hosts Jesus Christ. And He knocks on all the doors of those who still don’t know Him, that all may have the same chance to enter into the truth and be saved from death. Amen.

God is power. I never really wanted to include this element of God as it is so blatantly obvious to all, but the fact that He has this almighty awesome power to create/change, He don’t use it often. He could create a bunch of robots or androids to entertain if He really wants. That would be so much easier wouldn’t it, because sin would be non-existent and God would always be pleased then. But God wanted more than that, He wanted to create man, which through development and choice could become something pleasing and trusting to Him. Something that could live forever with Him, knowing they would be loyal and trustworthy and be truly reverent to Him. In other words God wanted us to want to love Him, for what He is (all the above and more), not be forced to love Him. If anyone professes to love Jesus just in order to get to heaven, He will see through that feeble exterior and spew you out of His mouth. To know Him is to love Him; there is no other way. If you don’t like what God is, I suggest you follow your flesh and enjoy while you can because there is nothing else but pain for you thereafter when you part this life.

Summary.

There are many other characteristics of God that one could talk forever on, but in summing up it would be best put that God is everywhere and everything. All these characteristics can be put into one called “Truth”, for Gods way is the only way that leads to life eternal, and the only way to find this truth is through the son Jesus. He is the way, truth and the life, and nobody can go to the Father lest they go through Jesus whom has been given all authority to judge and rule by the Father in heaven. Amen.
