Cape Barren Island

01 On 25 November 2009, I received the following e-mail:

Good Evening Alan
Your article in Tasmanian Tramp 24 chronicling your walk around Cape Barren Island is an item I refer to from time to time. (You make several interesting observations)
As one who has been keen about all aspects of the island for many years and a more & more frequent visitor {eg Hosted a Field Nats. group of 24 there this month}, an album entry on your web site for CBI would be keenly perused by me.
I do not expect to be known to you. Last lived in Hbt 30 years ago, doing only a few HWC walks. For the last 3 decades I have resided in NE Tas....semi remote rural Telita to be specific. Your flirtations on the Web seem fairly new....I will check you out from time to time to see updates.
Cheers
Revel Munro

The article referred to is:
'A Nine-day Walking Trip On Cape Barren Island', in The Tasmanian Tramp No. 24 1982/83 pp44-48..

I was introduced to Cape Barren Is by Club member Bob Dreaper who had been to the island with Keith McPherson (I think) of the VMTC and then organised a Hobart Walking Club trip there from 26 Dec 1977 to 2 Jan 1978.
I led a trip there over Xmas 1979/80, Arthur Knight led a trip over Xmas 82/83 and I led a second trip over Easter 27 March to 1 April 1986.
I have walked on other Bass Strait islands - King, Flinders, Three Hummock - but Cape Barren was my favourite.
The article was written in 1982 but the following pictures were taken on the Easter trip of 1986. On this trip we saw no-one for days but every morning there were two pairs of fresh footprints in the sand ahead of us. When some of our party caught up with the mysterious footprint makers they found that one was a Parks ranger on holiday and they were following an article from The Tasmanian Tramp written by Allan Christian!
