Who Killed Mr. Chippendale? a mystery in poems

Mel Glenn

from the book...

It's just a regular day at a regular high school...

Until popular English teacher Mr. Chippendale is shot while taking his morning run around the school track. As the Tower High community struggles to come to grips with the shocking murder, you'll get to know the students and faculty members whose lives Mr. Chippendale touched: Cynthia Arroyo, the aspiring writer who was encouraged by Mr. Chippendale; Angela Falcone, Tower's guidance counselor and Mr. Chippendale's ex-girlfriend; John Bellerus, the student who failed Mr. Chippendale's class and is glad to see his teacher dead; and many others. This series of interlocking free-verse poems reveals the inner thoughts of Tower High's students and faculty, their feelings about their own lives, and ultimately the answer to the burning question - Who killed Mr. Chippendale, and why?

This book is about an English teacher who one day while taking his morning run is shot down by a foolhardy student. Who is this person - a student or an adult? All that is known is it is a person in a red jumper. Look through the clues as the students all give there side of the story and find out who killed Mr. Chippendale.

This book would surprise and amaze the ages of 13 to 16, particularly those who like the mystery genre.

Who Killed Mr Chippendale?  is similar to The Brimstone Journals. It's a story about the students and teachers at a small high school called Tower High School. The school experiences the murder of one of the schools oldest teachers. He was shot dead while going for his morning run around the school oval. We follow the school as it is overrun by cops and the media. The characters are written so that you think you know who the murderer is but in the end you find out that your assumption is completely wrong. I think this is a good book for people who think they are good detectives because I can guarantee even they may get it wrong.

Who Killed Mr. Chippendale? is a verse novel based on the murder of an English teacher, Mr. Chippendale who works at Tower High School. He is shot dead, just before school ends, while going for a run.

The book is a mystery, but for me that did not seem like the major theme.  The book was more about the effect that Mr. Chippendale’s death had on the other teachers and students. In doing this, it keeps you guessing, because there are several people who were happy to see him dead, for failing their class, criticizing their poetry, or just annoying a student. Many students respected him though, and there are many passages describing how he will be missed, especially by his ex-girlfriend Angela Falcone, the school counselor.

The book was not particularly powerful or moving, but it was a good read, seeing how someone’s death impacts on everyone, and trying to figure out who it was that killed Mr. Chippendale.
