FRP Tanks and
Vessels
Baron Fibreglass has manufactured some of the largest
fibreglass
tanks in the southern hemisphere. The nominal volume of these tanks was
600 m3 (visit the
Photo
Gallery). Other tanks that were manufactured included tanks with
nominal volumes of 300 m3, 20 m3 amongst various other sizes.
Baron Fibreglass has also manufactured electro-winning vessels. These
vessels have a typical isotensoid shape allowing for the vessel to
perform its duty and at the same time have a minimal wall thickness.
The FRP tanks and electro-winning vessels have been in service for over
a decade under very severe operating conditions. The electro-winning
vessels typically contain 40 gm/kg of sulphuric acid at 97.50C.
The 300
m3 tanks are subject to thermal cycling approximately
every
6 to 8 hours. The temperature changes from ambient to 970C before
the
tank contents are discharged and the tank returns to ambient. In spite
of these harsh operating conditions, the tanks continue to perform in a
satisfactory manner.
The tanks and vessels were manufactured to BS4994 standard, which is
one of the strictest standard for fibreglass tank fabrication.
Corrosion
Resistant floor coatings
Baron Fibreglass offers a wide range of epoxy and vinyl
ester based floor coatings. The applications range from supermarket
floors to concrete floors and containment bunds in chemical plants
where acid spills may occur on a more frequent basis.

Baron Fibreglass has manufactured pipes and fittings for
handling
and transport of various chemicals. We are also capable of wrapping

Fire retardant and
anti-static FRP items
Baron Fibreglass specialises in the manufacture of fire
retardant and anti static GRP components for the underground mining
industry. These products have been tested by the Mine Safety Laboratory
of the Department of Mineral Resources, New South Wales, Australia and
have been approved by them.
Baron Fibreglass have supplied bench seats on the personnel carriers
that transport personnel underground. We have also manufactured toilets
suitable for underground use.
Inspection and
testing
Baron Fibreglass offers a comprehensive inspection service for
your fibreglass asset. The inspection is undertaken taking in to
account the duty conditions including operating temperature, thermal
cycling, contents stored, chemical reactions, the age of the asset, etc.
A comprehensive inspection report complete with recommendations is
provided upon completion of the inspection. Specific destructive and
non-destructive testing can also
be undertaken and can include thickness testing, hardness testing,
bending/deflection tests, burn tests, etc.

Repairs: On-site
and In-shop
We undertake repairs to various FRP components,
either in the
shop or at your site. When we undertake
repairs at the
customers premises, we ensure that the safe work practices applicable
to the work site are strictly followed.
Most of our personnel are trained in the safe
entry of confined spaces. They have a fork lift truck ticket. A site
and job specific induction may be
necessary prior to commencing work on your site.
Design and
Consultancy
Baron Fibreglass can undertake design of various FRP/GRP
items
including tanks and vessels. For all design jobs our submission always
includes the detailed design calculations, together with any applicable
sketches.
Baron fibreglass can provide specialist advice on a range of FRP/GRP
issues, especially when the FRP/GRP laminates would be subject to harsh
environments. Other areas we can advice our customers on, are areas
such as flooring and concrete protection and any specific corrosion
related issue. If we are unable to provide the necessary advice we will
point them in the right direction.
