Application and removal guidlines for all Qwikskin products.
Qwikskin products are ideally applied onto a newly cleaned and dry surface, or to new equipment prior to being used. (New paint must be allowed sufficient time to cure first.) The temperature of the surface to coated should be: • Above 12 °C/55°F (low humidity/dew point) • Above 15°C/68°F (high humidity/dew point) Although touch dry relatively quickly, a curing time of >24 hours should be expected (dependent on temperature and humidity). In Cool conditions heat lamps or warm sunlight may be needed for curing. Do not attempt to apply in very damp or cold conditions.
Best results are achieved when the coating is applied with a commercial spray gun. Apply a ‘tack' coat as the first coat. This is achieved by gently misting a thin coat onto the surface. When the tack coat is touch-dry, apply a heavier coat evenly over the surface. Applying too much coating will cause it to run and pool, with no added benefit. A thin coat is good!
Once the coat has cured, it has a slightly waxy/satin low sheen finish. This can be gently buffed for aesthetic improvement if required. Cleaning the coated machinery with a high pressure hot water cleaner will not remove the coating, but it may need maintenance on some high wear surfaces. Maintenance (recoating or ‘touching-up' a small area) may be carried out with a brush or hand-held spray bottle carried by the driver, applied in conditions as detailed for ‘application'
Being primarily water-based, water can be used for equipment clean-up and removal of overspray, however… …best results for cleaning the spray-gun are achieved by using ‘General Purpose' spraying thinners. This is due to the presence of a resin in the formula.
If the protective coating needs to be removed for any reason, this is readily done using a strong alkaline type of solvent, such as Prepsol which is used by automotive refinishers to remove any trace of silicone car polish. Citrus based cleaners can also be used. To remove any subborn areas, steel wool will give better results than sandpaper. Once all traces of the Qwikskin coating are removed, use normal surface preparation methods.
