Microsoft couldn’t make it to demonstrate Vista, un-fortunately, but Alex Zaharov-Reutt saved the day with his vast computer knowledge. He advised us to ‘wait and see’ with Vista and to use Google Search for those simple computer questions in the first instance — don’t wait for the next Main Meeting.
For those worried about Vista vs XP, he suggested running simultaneous Operating Systems as Virtual Machines using VMWARE Server on Windows. This is a free (21 MB Zip file) download from:
You start with a host system, say Windows XP, then you install Vista as a Virtual Operating System using VMWARE. That way, you can run Vista without fear of crashing your main OS. Any files you produce on Vista cannot, however, be directly written back to the host OS, except via CD or memory stick. That way your computer stays safe from your experiments.
