COMMENTS AND CRITICISMS
I came across your 'Mundell' site while searching for an old Age article of mine.
I was very surprised, and very flattered, to find myself listed on your site as
someone who is 'making their mark'. I'm not sure how much of a
mark I'm really making, but it's nice to think so.
Just wanted to let you know that I am still working as a freelance writer, but
after almost five years at The Big Issue I now have a new position as a youth
policy officer with the Council to Homeless Persons. I don't know whether you
update your site often but here is a little bio just in case it's useful:
I still write for The Big Issue, The Age and Beat magazine. In my policy role
also do a lot of public speaking, pushing for positive change on social justice
issues, particularly around homelessness and young people. I've been a keynote
speaker at the National Population Summit 2002, the Interface 2003 youth
conference, and the 2002 National Young Writers Festival. I've worked as a TV
doco researcher and a travel writer for Lonely Planet. In my spare time I also
work as a DJ, as well as being involved in electronic music production, and
trying my hand at writing fiction. (I've also dabbled in design, winning my
category in the Melbourne 2002 Fringe Fashion Awards with a dress made entirely
from vinyl records.)
That's enough of my ego talking. Thanks again for giving it a bit of a boost by
including me on your page. It doesn't bother me at all if you decide not to use
any of the info I've provided here.
Best regards,
Meg Mundell

Your site is a great source of knowledge about Mundells. I only have a
couple of suggestions.
1. It may be a good idea to put a date against the links even if it is only
an indication of the century. esp against the famous Mundells.
2. You may like to put a footnote on the Cameron Smith papers, to
the fact that Sir Walter Scott was correct when he wrote that alexander Mundell
(his solicitor) lived at Fludyer Street. The proof is in the Edinburgh
library for anyone to check. It can be found in the document indexes
under the name of Mundell. I have also corrected the indexing of those
letters as they had him as both a solicitor and an economist. I think
they are going to call him an economist!
Regarding Adam Mundell not being married. We have some outstanding
questions about that too. He left his money in his will to his son!
They really are a fascinating crowd.

I am so very excited.
My grandfather (number 61 on the 1880 census list) and his family are listed on
your website. Before this, I have found nothing on them.
My grandfather was James Robert Mundell, his mother was Sarah Elizabeth.
When his father died, Sarah remarried and moved to California.

Got your message about Mundell website !
Looks great !
My
brother, a Mundell descendant, was killed in Viet Nam. Are you
interested in his information to include in Mundells at War section ??

Bob,
A very useful website which enabled me to revisit Dr Cameron's papers on my
ancestors. We recently visited the National library in Edinburgh and
found many pieces of correspondence between Sir Walter Scott and my 3 x g
grandfather Alexander MUNDELL - he was listed as both a solicitor and an
economist (i.e. two people) so we were able to get that put straight.
There are also letters from Alexander to the House of Peers advising his
suggested changes to proposed Acts of Parliament. The letters are sent
from both Parliament Square (two different homes there) and also Fludyer Street
(so Sir Walter's reference to that address in correspondence was correct!).
We also found a poster from Alexander's mother's printing house
advertising their agency for the Posthumous works of Robert Burns. On the back
is a letter from them to someone else, and this questions the proportion of the
production costs of the books for which they are being invoiced.

Dear Bob,
Thank you for the new site. I will be returning to it often. I have just started researchimg the branch
of the family that included a g-g-grandmother AGNES MUNDELL/MUNDALL of
Kirkbean, Kirkcudbright. Who married PETER WELLS of Mousewald co. Dumfries on
January 23, 1846. I am having grgeat difficulty tracing her ancestry backwards
but have "High Hopes".
