Rank and Organization: Corporal, Company E, 5th Michigan Infantry. Place and Date: At Sailors Creek, Va., 6 April 1865. Entered Service At: Dallas, Mich. Born: 1839, Michigan. Date Of Issue: 10 May 1865.

Citation: Capture of flag.

Walter L. Mundell enlisted in the 3rd Michigan Volunteer Infantry in 1861. Before War's end, he had served in both the 3rd and 5th Michigan Volunteer Infantries, had been wounded twice, captured a Confederate Battle Flag at the Battle of Saylor's Creek (April 6, 1865) and awarded the Medal of Honor. He died on April 20, 1900.
