Home Engine Gearbox Diff and Brakes . Steering and Suspension

What we hope to achieve is a car that starts first turn of the key everytime, is pleasant and comfortable to drive, and handles and stops exceptionally.

With that in mind  we chose en EFI engine. After much research on the internet we decided on the 4AGE. It met all the criteria that we sort. Its a modern engine -unleaded fuel, fuel injection, parts that were easy to come by, and very reliable. We had to have a manual as they are so much fun, so a five speed was the go as it would provide a good cruising speed along with economy.

We were always going for  4  wheel disc brakes as the increased   stopping power and fade resistance leaves drums for dead. In keeping with the other toyota components, I thought it would be good to have toyota discs and stud pattern. This will make it easy for future servicing and wheel choice. I found Castlemaine Rod Shop make a conversion kit for toyota corolla discs to morris minor hubs.

I was lucky to have a nephew who had an old 76 celica which was very rusty but has good mechanicals. I was able to aquire the car and it has been stripped and is a doner for many parts being used on the morris including diff, brakes, brake cylinder, clutch master cyl and slave cyl, pedal box, wheels etc.

When I purchased the engine, I got as much ancillary gear from the car as possible, this included the air conditioning, heater box, steering column and power steering rack, all the relays and loom. The power steering will be grafted in to fit. The rack may need to be shortened as it is about 50mm longer on full lock than the morris. Overall width though is pretty close. I will do some more investigating. The corolla steering column will be fitted  which incorporates the lights, indicators and multispeed wiper switches.
