A Kitbashed History

Much of the background within which I have developed the Brindabella Railway did in fact happen; the liberties I have taken have been to change the scale of certain events and in some cases altered by a few years the time they occurred to suit my own purposes. For example, tin was discovered in Stanthorpe but I changed the date and the size of the discovery; similarly with minerals in the Texas region. The land grant acts did exist but although there were some very grandiose schemes mooted, no construction took place. The competing political interests of the different parts of Queensland was certainly a factor in shaping Queensland Railways. Much of the land around the Granite Belt was used for soldier settlements and to this day the area is a major fruit producing area. Even the oil field discovery is only a relatively small variation on an oil field which does indeed exist only slightly north of the area which would be served by the Brindabella Railway, although in my world it is of course much larger. More recently, the relationship with National Rail, and the possibility of the Brindabella Railway competing for traffic in other states is feasible in the current railway environment of open access. The biggest single act of kitbashing history was to create the mineral deposit and town of Milne Crossing at the western extremity of the system.
