The RACMP Corps March

The current Corps March (music) of the RACMP is 'Gendarmes Duet' composed by Offenbach.

This was not always the case. Prior to 12 November 2001, the Corps March was titled the 'Pointsman' and had been in use since 1993. Prior to 1993 the Corps March was Offenbach's 'Gendarmes Duet' and the Corps reverted to the original March on 12 November 2001.

A minute was distributed to all MP units on 12 November 2001, File number 284-1-1,

1 MP/OUT/2001/244, signed by Lt Col Grutzner, CO 1 MP BTN and PM-A authorising the music and confirming the change.

As of the 12th of November 2001, the Corps approached the Defence Force School of Music and requested a re-wording of 'Gendarmes Duet' to reflect the modern day aspects of the RACMP. At this time the new wording is still being written.

The words to 'Gendarmes Duet' are as follows and supplied with Compliments of H.J. Marshall, Chief Inspector (unknown service):

1st Verse

We're public guardians bold yet wary,

And of ourselves we take good care,

To risk our precious lives we're chary,

When danger looms we're never there,

But when we see a helpless woman,

Or little boys that do not harm,

We run them in, We run them in,

We run them in, We run them in,

We show them we're the Bold Gendarmes

We run them in We run them in We run them in We run them in,

We show the we're the bold Gendarmes

2nd Verse

If gentlemen should cause a riot

And punch each others heads at night,

We feel disposed to keep it quiet,

Provided that they make it right,

But if they do not seem to heed us,

Or give to us our proper terms,

We run them in, etc.
