In August 1955, the 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade Group Provost Unit (Aust Component) was formed in Melbourne, with a strength of 1 Officer and 17 ORs. The Unit sailed to Penang, Malaya, in October 1955. The unit moved to Malacca in 1961 and then to Singapore in November 1969 where with the downsizing of British Troops it became the 28th Commonwealth Provost Unit. In 1971 with the re-establishment of British presence in the area the Unit was renamed ANZUK Provost Unit.
