Special Investigation Branch (SIB)

The Special Investigation Branch of the Australian Army Provost Corps was formed in 1940 in the Middle East with a staff of 2 investigators from the Australian Army Provost Corps. The Commander of the 2nd AIF, General Blamey, was appalled by the level of theft and fraud being committed and directed that the SIB be established to properly investigate these incidents. By the end of WW2 the SIB had 7 Officers and 122 ORs.
