Fire in the BellyFire in the Belly: The inside story of the modern Olympics

This book is part of the black dog books series The Mystery of History. These books bring the past to life in an interesting and entertaining way.

Fire in the Belly tells the story of the modern Olympics from their shaky start back in 1896 to the present day. I explore the exciting and sometimes ups and downs of the modern Olympics. From athletes who succeed against all odds, to drug cheats who will do anything to win. From a runner hitching a lift in the 1904 marathon to Eric the Eel, the swimmer from Equatorial Guinea who in 2000 had trouble swimming from one end of the pool to the other. There are highs and lows that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next.

Every four years the world's attention is turned to the Games. As we cheer our sporting heroes, the current state of the world is brought into focus. The Olympic Games have become much more than a sporting event.
