Bergs 73 Class – TCS M1

Josh Beveridge 30/8/2005

The narrow hood of this locomotive necessitates the use of a small decoder like the TCS M1. The decoder is mounted on the chassis base plate in the No.2 end – See pictures.

Step One: Remove couplers and the 2 screws under the cab. Slide handrails out of posts on both sides of the cab. Lift off the body.

Step Two: Start by unsoldering the wires attached to the solder pad on the bogie pivot screw.

Step Three: Temporarily ‘blue tak’ the decoder to the chassis to give yourself a measuring point so you can cut the decoder wires to length.

Step Four: Connect up the decoder. Solder the red and black decoder wires to the each of the solder pads on the bogie pivots. Solder the Orange and Grey wires to the motor terminal wires. Bundle up all loose wires and tape to the decoder. Secure the decoder back onto the chassis. Make sure there are no loose wires that can be pinched when the body is put back on.

Step Five: Program the locomotive and test run. Reassemble the model and check that all is operating ok.
