Diesel Locomotive Specifications

To aid in Sound Decoder Selection

Here is a chart of basic Diesel Locomotive specifications to help you select the appropriate sound decoder for your model. I have based it on NSWGR Locomotives, but I have included popular locomotives from other states that are equivalent.

General grouping of engines for Soundtraxx DSD/DSX Decoders are:-

1st Generation EMD  42 (S,B,GM), 421, 422 (X), 49 (T)

2nd Generation EMD  AN, 81 (G,BL), C, CL (CLP,CLF), DL, L (31)

ALCO   40, 43, 44 (930), 442 (700), 45 (600), 48 (830), 80

GE – 47, 79, NR

Loksound Decoders – Stock numbers quoted are close representations. Air horns may not be accurate but the Loksound decoder can be

reprogrammed with new sounds to make it sound right. I wish to include sound samples of Engine and Air horns separately in .wav format, so modellers

will have a sound library to be able to download, free of charge, the correct sounds for their locomotives.

Please email sound files to joshyb@iprimus.com.au
