The Bubbling Sands of Boat Harbour Beach

Before white man times and before Boat Harbour earnt its name, Aborigines would sit by their fire in the rock-shelf cave and watch the drifting calm patches floating around the bay. On a still warm day, these fresh water floaters can be seen like a mosaic of mirrors. The aboriginals came to know that the splotches of fresh water floated on the salt waters and were an attraction to the wandering land birds. Clean fresh water in Boat Harbour travels underground down from numerous springs, emerging in the pure white sand on the floor of the bay. The aborigines according to legend knew these underwater places. What we might now call sea-floor springs. They would watch the strange birds come to drink from the sea above the bubbling sands.
