I've received heaps of inquiries about Rob Walkers Induction Furnace, now I've finally got some photo's to post. This little beast is a home made job and runs on the standard 240 V single phase outlet. As far as capacity goes it will comfortably pour around one liter of molten cast iron into your moulds. Its quiet, clean and efficient, you could even cast in your kitchen without the wife knowing about it. Talking with him he is considering selling this as kit for the hobby caster. Currently an as built unit retails at around $5000.00 AU. I would assume it would be considerably cheaper in kit form. I will post his contact details soon for further info.
Rob in the background. The small cylinders in the front were cast from steel nails converted to iron in this furnace.
Some of the wheel castings sitting beside the furnace.
A photo of some of Ernie's castings. In the photo you will see a small crucible a red colored mould and a silver looking blob. It's actually aluminum that's been melted in the small crucible inside a micro-wave oven.
Some more of Ernie's castings. You can see his workshop set-up under a Day in the Valley on the main foundry page.
