Letters of War?
This site was prepared for all those interested in the Napoleonic Age, specifically the combat that took place. I hope you will find it informative and interesting.
All the letters are genuine letters from eyewitnesses.
Being a member of the Napoleonic Wargame Club I would recommend other members to read these letters with awe, and imagine the strength of character that those soldiers, from many lands, must have had to withstand the brutal nature of close up fighting that took place in that era.
While modern warfare may be more brutal in many respects, it is often distant and remote in its deadliness. During the bygone era of Napoleon, you could see death walk towards you slowly, in the guise of splendidly uniformed infantry, or worse, thunder towards you astride shrieking horses, mad with fear.
I suppose my ultimate reason for taking the time and trouble to produce this site, was to pay homage to those who endured the privations of the many battles which plagued Europe early in the nineteenth century.
