After getting through the 'difficult years' with the help of a family about whom I know nothing more but their name - Kavanagh - John Rothwell was to meet a young lady who changed his life -
of Swinton
This is the story of the Holland family from Wellington, Shropshire and later Swinton

REBECCA'S DEATH. The death of Rebecca HOLLAND in 1872 was informed by a Martha Hackett. On the 1881 census it is noted that a Joseph and Martha HACKETT lived with their children, only 2 doors away from John HOLLAND, thus it is assumed that the informant of Rebecca's death was indeed her neighbour.
Following is information on John & Rebecca's eldest son WILLIAM. Although it is GEORGE who I will be following, as he is in the direct line, it was felt that because there was so much information on William's family available to me, it was worthwhile including it in here.
The eldest son, WILLIAM, of 8 Spencer Street, married Margaret Coope (the girl across the street) of 5 Spencer St Pendlebury, daughter of Thomas Coope, joiner, on September 4, 1886. Their children were:

Notes on William & family
On 30 June 1905. In consideration of the sum of £1.5.5 paid by William Albert Holland, 29 New Cross Street, Swinton, the exclusive right of burial in the grave space marked 361 in Section C in the Church of England portion of Swinton Cemetery.
William died at New Cross Street, Swinton on 2 October 1905 aged 43, from Pulmonary Tuberculosis. He had suffered for 20 months. Death was certified by Sam Nosegood MRCS. Certificate was incorrectly written out as September and was corrected by MJ Berry, Registrar in the presence of Margaret Holland, widow of William.
June 2 1920 - St Peters Church, Swinton. Daughter Charlotte married Fred Rothwell, grocer of 1 Dudley Road Pendlebury, aged 28. Fred was the son of Albert Rothwell, miner. Witnesses were Ernest Rothwell and Olive Holland.
During all these years, the family of William and Margaret Holland resided in 29 New Cross Street, Swinton. The last Electrol Register showing any of the remaining family was in 1931/33 when Olive was still living there. She was not there in the 1935/36 register.
