Parishioners are active in a vast range of activities, reflecting our attempts to be "Christ's body on Earth."
Different people are called to use their skills and abilities in different ways, leading to some of us to work for the local community and others to work for larger, international Anglican bodies.
Here are some of the activities our parish supports:
- Anglican Pacifist Fellowship - The Fellowship is an international body that seeks to live the teachings of Christ's Sermon on the Mount by rejecting violence and warfare as a way of resolving international conflicts. An anti-military, pro-peace group, the Fellowship works constructively in peace education, conflict resolution, preventative diplomacy and conducts anti-war protests. The Anglican Pacifist Fellowship are active in our parish, raising awareness of injustice, supporting Conscientious Objectors and political prisoners around the world and leading the Church in calls for an end to war and abolition of the military.
- Annual Fun Run - We have parishioners who help to coach children in athletics, to promote physical, as well as spiritual, fitness. The parish also conducts a Fun Run in June each year, which is fast becoming a tradition.
- Art Exhibition - All too often these days, the Church fails to engage the Arts community. In order to rectify this, we hold an annual art exhibition at the Kilcoy Parish Hall, promoting religious works. We seek to support artists who wish to illuminate our faith with their perceptive messages.
- Bush Church Aid Society - We are a strong supporter of remote parishes in mining and agricultural regions across Australia. We are visited annually by Bush Church Aid Society clergy who inform us of their activities.
- Ecumenical Endeavours - We have a very strong focus upon building and maintaining our relationship with other Christian communities in our region. This has lead to our covenant with the local Roman Catholic, Lutheran and Uniting Churches, a pioneering achievement. Christian unity is a vital factor in spreading the Gospel.
- E.-Cafe - This is an ecumenical fellowship and community outreach group.
- Flower and Craft Show - There is an annual flower and craft show, which accepts entries from the public in a variety of divisions. The exhibits are shown at the Kilcoy Church Hall.
- Home Visits - Pastoral care is an important aspect of our Church's work. For those who cannot attend services due to isolation, illness or any other reason, please contact us and our minister or a parishioner can visit you.
- Hymn Fest - Our Hymn Fest endeavour is a celebration of Christian songs and a night of fellowship for parishioners and visitors alike. It has proved to be an extremely popular endeavour, with the selection of hymns for the evening chosen by the popular vote.
- Kilcoy Country Companions - This is a major community outreach program established
by the Anglican Parish of Kilcoy. KCC provides day respite care and in-home support for the aged in Kilcoy and surrounding districts. KCC is Chaired
by the incumbent Rector of the Anglican Parish of Kilcoy and is administered
under the auspices of Spiritus, the caring arm of the Synod of the Anglican
Diocese of Brisbane.
- May Market - We conduct a Fair at Woodford in May each year as another key fundraising activity.
- Opp. Shop - Our Opp. Shop, located at the rear of Saint Matthias, is a focal point of the Woodford community and a key source of fundraising for the Church's activities. It is staffed by dedicated and hard-working volunteers. The Opp. Shop recently featured in the local news.
- Quiet Days - Our diocese focuses strongly on contemplative worship and Quiet Days are one way of doing this. These days consist of group study, followed by individual, silent meditation.
- School Chaplaincy - We support chaplains within the schools in our diocese, particularly their efforts to counsel troubled youths in the secular environment of the Government school system. With Queensland State Government schools failing our students so badly through endemically poor standards of teaching and ethics, this is a highly important venture. We are also deeply concerned about the university malpractice that is so rife in Australia.
- Scripture Union - We support the work of Scripture Union volunteers as they seek to proclaim and promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Study Groups - Knowledge of Christianity is in steep decline in our society. All too often, the only knowledge of Christianity people is distorted or simplistic, glib views from the media or extremist groups. We seek to rectify this by having regular study and fellowship groups, where people are allowed to ask questions and openly debate scripture and doctrines and their place in our modern age. Over the last year, Kilcoy have been studying the writings of Saint Paul from the Bible, whilst the Woodford group have been analysing the foundations of Anglicanism and how our shared identity has evolved over time.
- Taizé - founded by a Swiss Protestant monk residing in France, Taizé has grown into an international ecumenical movement that offers a contemplative style of service of particularly appeal to young adults. We hold Taizé services on a sporadic basis, generally in the evening. All are welcome to experience this enormously popular form of worship.
- TEAR Australia - A Christian group working for social justice and engaging with the politics of the world to bring about change.
- Women's Guilds - The Guilds are made up of dedicated members of the congregation who offer their time and energy in support of the Parish. They beautify the interiors of Saint
Mary’s and Saint Matthias’ Churches, manage important fundraising events,
help to raise the profile of the Parish in the community and serve as a
bond of unity and fellowship. The Kilcoy Guild meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:00 am
in the church hall (following the 9:30 am Eucharist at St Mary’s.) The Woodford Guild meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am
in the church hall (following the 9:30 am Eucharist at St Matthias’.)
