WHAT IS DO CARE?

Do Care Colac has a program that provides companionship for isolated older people. The service co-ordinates caring volunteers who visit older people at home and encourage them to integrate into the social networks within the local community. Do Care offers a range of monthly Planned Activity Groups that enable people to get out and socialise. Do Care has been established in Colac since 1983, is a non-profit service and is administered by a voluntary Board of Governance.

Who is Do Care for?
The services of Do Care Colac are available to older people who live independently and have limited opportunities for social interaction. Do Care Colac is able to respond to individuals’ needs irrespective of their ethnic or linguistic background and assists carers who look after a person still living at home.

How does Do Care Work?

Do Care Colac receives referrals of older people who would like social support from other health service providers, doctors and family members. These individuals are either matched with a volunteer visitor, who visits on a regular basis and forms a valuable friendship. Or they may want to participate in the Planned Activity Group arranged by the Lifestyle Co-ordinator.
