Robert Baker

 

Robert Baker was tried with a James Berrill at the Hereford Assizes on 18 March, 1841, charged with Burglary and stealing bread and bacon. He was sentenced to Life Transportation and left Woolwich on the Isabella (2) on 29 Jan 1842, arriving in Hobart on 21 May 1842.

A Protestant who could read and write, he was married, and left his wife Eliza behind in England.

His Convict Description is as follows:

Height: 5' 8¼"

Age: 31

Complexion: Fair

Head: Medium

Hair: Dark Brown

Whiskers: Reddish

Visage: Oval

Forehead: Retreating

Eyebrows: Brown

Eyes: Hazel

Nose: Large

Mouth: Large

Chin: Small

Native Place: Ledbury, Herefordshire.

 

On 1 May 1854 he married Irish convict Honor Keogh in Hobart.

 

Two daughters were born to them, Eliza in 1855 in Morven, and Mary Ann (my great great grandmother) circa 1857, place unknown as her birth was not registered.

 

Robert died of Decay of Nature on 11 May 1857 at Brighton.
