Jane Gordon

Jane is something of an enigma in my research. At first I couldn't find which ship transported her to Australia, but eventually established that it was the Royal Admiral. She is not named on the Royal Admiral's list but is recorded in Norfolk Island muster lists as having arrived per Royal Admiral on 31 October 1795. Other sources say she changed ships at NSW and went to Norfolk Island on the Pitt.

While on the Island she cohabited with Daniel Taylor and gave birth to their daughter, Mary. The relationship failed and by the time she left Norfolk Island on 3 September 1808 per City of Edinburgh, she was cohabiting with convict William Scattergood.

Her daughter Mary used the Scattergood surname when she married Thomas Triffitt, son of James Triffitt and Mary Higgins.

Jane and William married on 21 December 1811 at Back River, New Norfolk, Tasmania. There were no other children.

Jane died 11 December 1838 at approximately 75 years of age.
