Project Update (2)

On to paint and panel work. I stripped the entire car of paint myself. I used chemical strippers which is a very time consuming job and it is extremely boring and difficult. The whole process took many months, but was worth the results. During this part of the project I acquired a replacement bonnet as the original one was badly rusted around the bonnet latch. I also discovered some damage and rust in both sills and some previous rust repairs either side of the rear wheel arches. Overall, however, the body was in great shape for a 30 year old car.

Once the car was completely stripped, and all panels loosely fitted, I had the car towed (on a flat bed truck) to the panel shop. Otto's Accident Repair Centre did an excellent job, redoing all existing rust repairs, and any additional ones - all in metal. They also welded up all unwanted trim holes, and removed the seam that runs under to doors for a smoother look. The car was then painted in silver with some black 'R/T' stripes and tail treatment (because it adds to that muscle car feel!). Anyone wanting quality Panel work should call Paul on 9479 4866, and get their car to Otto's Accident Repair Centre at 26 Wynyard Street, Belmont WA 6104.
