Project Update(3)

Home

Now the hard stuff begins. I have put a few items of exterior trim and so on back on the car, but the big jobs that are underway are reinstalling the wiring and adding an alarm, central locking and some accessories. You can see this is going well in the pictures below.  I'm also preparing and painting the steering column and dash to reinstall as these are needed to support the wiring loom - you can see the steering column is back in the car.  I will then get the underside finished of with some more black, rust preventative paint and reinstall the fuel tank and lines and a new diff. The diff was fully rebuilt by Ray of Pentastar Parts and Restorations, and as you can see it's a ripper - 3.23:1 Suregrip with R/T finned drum brakes. I'll be installing an electric fuel pump and more at this stage too!

Lastly, after a couple of false starts, I managed to track down a flip fuel cap which is a great muscle car piece, after a good polish and a touch up of the black paint, it looks great!

OK, so I removed the old diff, painted the underside of the car with POR 15 rust preventative paint, which I highly recommend, and I decided to paint the springs, hangers, u-bolts and everything else with the same stuff. Installing the new diff was fairly straight forward, but took some time to do by myself. I found the strategic use of plenty of bricks and rags (to prevent any scratches) worked well. I also installed new shock absorbers after removing and discarding the tired old air-shocks (Yuk!). You can see the progress shots below.

I have to say the new Diff looks really sharp under there and it really gave me a sense of achievement once it was in. I'm moving on to the fuel tank next and restoring the dash to finish the wiring.

Diff in 3.jpg (63172 bytes) The latest purchase has just arrived. I recently got the opportunity to get hold of some genuine 6 pack weber carburetors, manifold and linkages at a great price and didn't hesitate to purchase. Well they arrived home and they are a sight to stir any Hemi 6 fan, let me tell you! I thought I'd add a picture for your viewing pleasure.  Webers.jpg (73464 bytes)
Well i spent Sunday putting the Holley fuel pump in the car and restoring the accelerator pedal and fitting it. Theres a photo of the restored pedal below (I'm fixing up the brake pedal too, but ran out of time this weekend!) I needed to get the car forward out of the shed to clean the front suspension up too, so I took the opportunity to get some pictures of the rear for all of you to see. I seem to have reached a point in the reassembly where it doesn't seem like much is happening, despite all the small details that are going in to the car.
