Project Update(6)

Home

Work is now well underway on the driveline. The 2 pictures to the left below show the Weber's before and after I cleaned them up this weekend. overall the job took a little degreaser, 2 cans of carburetor cleaner and a lot of time with a wire brush and steel wool. I specially ordered the air cleaners to maximise engine bay clearance.

The next pic is of the freshly reconditioned and strengthened Borg Warner 35 Auto gearbox (thanks to AB Performance!) and the following one of the alloy hemi rocker cover and side plate.

The last picture is the Charger getting towed off to W.U.S. custom trimming for a brand new interior.

Well I picked the car up today and the interior trim is finished. I'm extremely pleased with the job that Jason and the guys at W.U.S. did. I think it's really captured the 70's muscle car flavour nicely. The trim is not original, but the customisations are fairly subtle. Clearly the nice black metallic look cloth inserts and the gray cloth headlining are far from standard poverty pack fittings. Here's a few shots below of the trim.

This weekend I managed too continue with a few interior bits and decided to fit out the doors with their cards and handles, just to see how it al looks. You can see the results in the last pic below. Clearly, I still have a few things to do inside the car, so I have not fitted the front seats...yet.

You can see the brand new windscreen and the rear screen (the original - just had new tinting applied) have been fitted. This was done by a professional as I didn't want to risk it! Lastly, after an hour and a half I managed to fit the roof rail seal and the rear quarter window. It's really starting to look like a car again!

After a test fitting of the custom aluminium radiator to the car to ensure I had the bracket locations figured out right. The radiator went  back to the shop to have the filler neck and brackets welded on and for a final polish. I fitted the radiator this weekend, and it is a great fit, exactly what I wanted - you can see it in the pic above.

In the last 2 pics above you can see that I have fitted the front seats, which means that all the electrics in the car are now working (Hooray!) I had a few troubles but a mobile auto electrician solved most of them and I fixed the rest. The interior is now nearly complete.

Below you can see that I have now fitted the passenger side door glass. This really gives a great idea of how the finished car looks. I'm really happy with it and I found fitting the glass was really quite easy. As I have done throughout the project,  I have replaced the weather-strips and everything else to get the best possible result with the car.

As you can see above, the head finally arrived. James (look for James Mopar on Moparmarket.com) has done a great job with it. Flow testing has shown good results with a maximum of 372 horsepower. The head is fitted with stainless oversize valves and Crane double springs, collets and retainers. The ports have been opened up a lot and hardened inserts fitted to handle unleaded fuel. The head and the camshaft (which also arrived) have been delivered to the engine builder.
