ABOUT BUYING A BANJO
Care is needed plus some experienced advice as they are very much an instrument of personal choice and should have an individual, good sound. Before buying a banjo, you will either play it or listen to it being played in contrast with other banjos. A wide range exists in the quality of manufacture. There are four popular types: Five-String, Tenor, Standard or Plectrum and Six-String.
INSTRUMENT QUALITY
We keep in stock a few new models from the current leading makers.
However, we also specialise in finding fine old-time banjos of American, European and British origin, some of the makes being Gibson, Vega, Bacon and Day, Clifford-Essex and Windsor.
They can be bluegrass, old-time, classic, frailing, clawhammer and flat-picking types.
We only accept those we can restore and present in mint condition and, of course, they must have a beautiful tone.
PRICES
The better class banjos have never been cheap to make. Fine older models are increasing in value each year and are now much sought after collectors' items and for investment. Prices vary according to make and quality, ranging from around $800 to $2,000 for a good middle of the road banjo and up to $5,000 or better for special instruments built by top craftsmen.
Always contact us should you be seeking any type of banjo as we may have it currently for sale or on the way to us. In addition we frequently have those interesting and hard to find parts.
