Greythorn's Guide

for the

Young Adventurer

Greythorn, Knight of Vallien

When I first decided to leave my home and family, for reasons not

discussed here, I had little knowledge of the world. This text is thus

a guide for those who too, like me in my youth, stepped into the

world of adventure and discovery.

This guide is of use to those who, having completed the test of

Jarrel's training center, and have seen a little of the lands about

Naerlan. The centaurs, gnomes and Sylvan Elves should all be

known to you. If you have not seen these places and people ask

around, for other adventurers can direct you there. The centaurs

and gnomes are to the west of Naerlan, the Sylvan Elves to the

northeast (you head north after leaving the east gate).

It is much to your benefit to have your weapons sharpened and

enchanted to the limits of your abilities, and such services can be

performed by warriors and mage respectively who have advanced

far enough to practice them. Imbuing of blunt weapons, envenoming

and runebinding are also useful, but not essential.

When you find that centaurs, gnomes and goblins are now below your

skill, its is time to look to more rewarding places to hunt.

The Underdark is a good as many, and so are the towns of Gerighelm

and NewThalos, if that is your inclination. I shall not guide you to these,

as I wont no part in the harming of the good people of Tharel.

The Underdark is hidden below ground north of Naerlan, and can

be reached by leaving the north gate, and following the path by

woods till you reach an intersection with a east/west road. Head

east along it, looking for the first southerly track. This track

south will lead you to a quiet forest, and the Underdark entrance

is to the west, behind a great stone, which must be opened. If you

find a bear in a cave, tread not there, for it is beyond your measure.

Consider your foes carefully, as death will befall the unweary in the

Underdark. Footpads, Lizard Men and Filchers are targets worthy

of those new to the Underdark. Stray not south of Slavers Route or

the market, for greater evils lurk there. The bravo and drow murderer

are not to be taken lightly.

Herbs are sold at the market, from the Darkened Root. They aid ones

prowess in battle, and help protect you from injury. The moss and root

are of the most useful. The Glowing Hand may aid you, if its magical

items you need, and the potions of detection make all those hidden

or invisible plain for you to see.

Many things in the land are dangerous, but of them those that hate

wanderers of the land, and attack them on sight are of the most treat.

The most vile of these are the orc's, under the command of Gromm.

Constantly at war with the Sylvan Elves, they attack all who enter

their lands, known in their foul tongue as Yrenelania. Their army

masses east of the Sylvan Village, and is not a place to enter until

you can hold your own with the Enforcer Eyes of the Underdark.

Goblins are less of a threat, and less inclined to be aggressive, but

Care must be taken around them too, especially when entering their

stronghold, where they stand in numbers.

To the north and east of Naerlan stands a great tree which blocks

the path. North and west of there lies many places, but I will

mention only one. The Shadow Grove, is alive with evil, and they can

see the unseen, and spot the hidden. Great care and strength is needed

to survive the maze of the Shadow Grove, as only great pathfinders

can navigate it with certainty.

The best advice is to travel wide and far, with as much caution as you

can muster, and ask those who walk the same road as thee for advice

and help when in need, as they know your hardships, having overcome

those same trials in their own development.

Look to the Gods for guidance, which ever path you choose; the light,

dark or the middle road, and seek what wonders the land of Tharel

has to offer. Remember, there is wisdom in everything, it just takes

the wise to see it. Go now and explore, learn of the land, and seek to

build yourself a place in the world. I wish you luck, and good travels.
