Siddhartha Gautama was
born into the Shakya clan in 566 B.C in Kalpataru (now Lumbini in Nepal),
he was born the son of a great king, living a life of luxury and
indulgence.
As he grew into a man he saw
suffering, death and disease, burdened by the weight of these things he
left his life of riches to become an ascetic and went in search of the
higher truth.
At the age of 35, after years
of study, meditation and sacrifice he found Nirvana and became 'Buddha' or
'the enlightened one'.
At the moment of becoming a
Buddha, his entire knowledge crystallized into the four noble truths:
-
The noble truth of Duhkha
(suffering)
-
The noble truth of the
origin of Duhkha
-
The noble truth of the
cessation of Duhkha
-
The noble truth of the path
leading to the cessation of Duhkha.
Buddha explained in detail,
the chain of causes which lead to suffering and the means of deliverance
from these sufferings.

Gautama
Cattery
Gautama Cattery is located in
South East Victoria (within the Melbourne metropolitan area), our cats
live in the house and have a 60 ft enclosure attached, it has concrete,
grass and a planted area so they can experience different environments
without ever having to go outside.
We
breed primarily Balinese but to keep our health, type and style we incorporate
Siamese and Siamese Variants into our lines. A Siamese Variant should be
in all respects a pure Siamese in looks, the only difference is that a
Variant is carrying a longhair gene, these cats are necessary in our
Balinese breeding programs as it helps to increase the gene pool,
therefore strengthening the lines.
When a Balinese is crossed to a Siamese, the result is all short coated
kittens, these are called 'Variants' Most cat councils recognise them as
normal Siamese as far as showing is concerned. When a Variant is put to
a Balinese, 1/2 the kittens should be long coated Balinese and 1/2
should be short coated Siamese Variants, when 2 Variants are put
together you would expect 1/4 Balinese, 1/4 pure Siamese and 1/2 Siamese Variants (also
called Balinese Variants) Siamese and Balinese can be bred together and
still produce pure bred pedigreed cats and it helps to improve type and increase the gene
pool of a rare breed such as the Balinese cat.
Our cats are fed a mostly
natural diet and high grade supplementation with diced steak and raw
chicken wings for clean teeth and healthy gums, we incorporate a holistic
approach to our animals welfare including natural therapies such as
Shiatsu, Massage, Aromatherapy and Reiki, we use naturopathic cures where
appropriate and the best of mainstream medicine when needed, all of our
cats are FIV and FeLV free and F4
vaccinated.
In July 2002 we completed a
course in feline genetics through Cornell University, (New York, USA)
gaining new insight and skills to help us breed the very best Balinese
that we can. Our cattery is small, insuring that we can give our babies
the very best care and attention possible. We do not produce many litters
a year as our goal is to produce quality not quantity, we take our time
finding just the right male for each of our girls, this can take many
months for each cat. It is not easy to try to improve type whilst keeping
genetic diversity and health.
As stud cats have a less
than ideal life, all of our males are sold desexed
and
our girls are sold desexed
unless prior arrangements have been made.
ALL of our kittens are sold on the condition that they will be
house cats and not penned, the health and happiness of our cats is our top
priority and this can only be achieved in our opinion in an inside loving
home environment.
We are happy to offer ongoing
support to anyone who purchases our kittens and provide information on the
breed and general cat welfare when needed, we are also happy to provide
information regarding cat shows and how to show your new kitten.
We are affiliated with the
Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Victoria and Australia.
