Economics

Hundreds of millions of people are unemployed worldwide, leading to huge problems, starvation and often violence and revolutions. While economists argue about ways to address unemployment and politicians introduce programs to address same, unemployment continues unabated. Some proposals are put forward to alleviate this problem.

Energy

Nations fight nations for control of natural resources, oil for energy and water for domestic consumption and industrial use in particular. Hundreds of thousands are killed. Cites and the countryside are laid waste. Concomitantly the promise of cheap and limitless energy from fusion has not been achieved. By reducing the demand for energy and developing fusion energy two problems can be solved.

Environment

Ocean and air temperatures and sea levels are rising rapidly owing to global warming. Is GW natural or man-made? Is the use of renewable energy appears as exacerbating the problem? What solutions exist?

Medical technology

Over 17,000 people die every year in Australian hospitals due to inappropriate or incorrect medical treatments. Some estimates suggesting that up to 500,000 people die a premature death annually in the US. Improvements in technology can reduce this death toll.

Astronomy

Among the many problems that puzzle astronomers are the orbit of Pluto, and the high winds on Neptune. Some hypotheses are put forward to explain both of these phenomena.

Computers

It is clear that without some extraordinary developments in technology artificial intelligence is at best an oxymoron, and at worst, a serious self delusion which can lead to terrible consequences.

Optics

A high speed, f/0.5, large aperture, 300 mm optical design is described and image/spot diagrams showing imaging performance are given.
