It is with great pride I bring to your kind notice that our Champion Under 17 Soccer Team added another feather to the Cup by emerging Champions at the most important National Schools Games held in Colombo by beating our arch rivals Zahira College by 1 goal to nil. They beat Thopawewa M.V. Pollonnaruwa 4-0 in pre quarter finals, St. Xavier's College Mannar 4-0 in Quarter Finals and Wickramabahu M.V. Gampola 3-0 in the Semi Finals before beating Zahira in the Finals.

By winning this championship our team made a clean sweep of all the trophies on offer

  1. Colombo Schools tournament Under 17 tournament
  2. The Western Province Tourney
  3. The Under 17 All Island Tournament conducted by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka
  4. The Ananda Invitational Sevens Tournament
  5. National Schools Games Champs
In recognition of this outstanding performance, The Education Ministry have extended an invitation to take part in a All India tournament in Delhi from 2nd October and I am pleased to note that the all support bodies have assured Bro. Director their support to make this tour a complete success by coming forward to fund these lads to make this historical tour after a lapse of many years by a Champion Team from SBC.

Please join me in congratulating our players and management for all the hardwork put in for this success to bring back the glory days to our beloved College.

This is to thank you very sincerely for all those who made it to the College Prize Giving and the launch of Benedictine Memoirs by Prof. Neil De Votta on Friday the 29th July. The attendance of the Council members and the other members of the Benedictine family at this historic day was a tremendous encouragement for all and Rev. Bros and parents commended the large number of Old Benedictines present on this day.Thank you all once again

The St. Benedict's College sports ground is to get a new look. Work has already started and soon the Benedictine sportsmen would have a ground where they can indulge in their activities without hindrance.

The full redeveloping of the ground is going to cost around 25 million rupees and take about a year to complete.

The man in charge of this gigantic undertaking is former Bens cricketer and hockey player and now an international hockey referee Ravi Irugalbandara.

  • GCE (O/L) 2004 PERFORMANCE

    We would wish to place on record that a total of 22 Students had obtained 5As and above at the GCE (O/L) exams of 2004 out of which 04 Students had obtained 8As.

    Also for Maths the pass percentage were 80.4% & 81.8% respectively by the Sinhala & Tamil Medium. And for Sinhala & Tamil Language the pass percentages were 95.1% & 93.9% respectively by the Sinhala & Tamil Medium. I have attached herewith is a summary of same.


  • As our Cricket Team did not perform well during the last season, we are currently negotiating with Mr Bandula de Silva (SLC Level II Cricket Coach) to take over the College Cricket for the next season.


  • Basketball

    The under-13 basket ball team emerged as the Colombo North Champions beating Colombo International Schools in the finals by 35/30. Also there were De La Salle, St Joseph, DS, Ananda, Nalanda to name a few in their Group.


  • College Grounds

    Also I am happy to inform you that the Phase I of the Ground Development Project has commenced and we followed proper procedures of soil testing with expertise and thereafter opened up a Tender and awarded this project to a company by the name of Udith Builders who had previous experience of developing Dambulla & Kurunegala Stadium. Our forecasted budget for the first phase is approx LKR 25 Million.


  • Soccer

    3) Under 17 Soccer team emerged All Island Soccer Kings once again by beating Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala by 1 goal to nil in Kurunegala today. This is the second consecutive year we have won the championship, last in year in Ratnapura. 325 Schools participated in this years tournament. The Benedictines beat Zahira College Colombo in a hard fought semi final by 2 goals to nil. Our Captain Thejan Fernando was selected as the best player of the tournament.
