| Hi, and welcome to Australia. Australia is a beautiful place,
with wide open spaces. I am proud to be an Aussie, and proud to show off my
country. The saying 'There's no place like home' is very true, as there is no
place like Australia. We vary from beautiful beaches, with white sand, to rolling
mountains, great for hiking and skiing - tropical forests - deserts. Every wish is
catered for in Australia. The total area is 7,682,292 square kilometres (2,966,133
square miles). 3,200 kilometres north to south and 4,000 kilometres east to west.
Australia has a population of 18,508,000 (roughly 0.3% of the worlds population),
94% European, 4.5% Asian and 1.5% Aboriginal. The term "The Land Down Under" most
probably originated because Australia lies in the Southern Hemisphere. It is the
only country in the world that occupies a whole continent. Australia is sparsely
populated, with the bulk of population concentrated along the east, southeast and
southwest coasts. |

| There are some wonderful surfing beaches in Australia.
The most well known beaches are Bells Beach, Bondi, Surfers Paradise and the
Sunshine Coast. Bells Beach (Victoria) holds a surfing carnival each year, with
competitors coming from around the world to vie for prizes. A large number of
Australians travel there to watch the surfing. Another famous tourist attraction
is the Great Barrier Reef which is approximately 300,000 sq miles long and has
more than 600 islands. Australia boasts some wonderful tourist attractions. All
