The ships log:

Maitland bay July 2004.

The weather charts were looking good during the week for this paddle. By Saturday the synoptic charts could not be any better.

Forecast for 5 to 10 knot winds from the NW swinging to SW in the afternoon. Starting from Ettalong and bringing my fishing gear as the surface fish were reported to be happening.

Stopped for around an hour at Box head hoping for some action but alas the few fish I caught wouldn't be enough to feed the cat. So it was off to Maitland Bay as planned.

Managed to beat into a very light NW breeze and moving north at about 1 knot without paddling. But the sail kept the glare off my eyes so it stayed up.

The beauty of this area is just amazing. Arriving at Box head around 15:00 the boats were assembling, I could see the surface fish were on the bite. A decision had to be made do I get my camera out or the fishing rod!! The camera won. No fish to bring home but some pleasant memories.
