Tales from the Scribe
The first story of this series involves a young man on a quest, a quest for metal.
Derek Fisher, a Canadian resident, decided on a more unusual way to fulfil his aural requirements by combining overseas holiday with a search for extreme metal, an idea that he found more intriguing than the usual online order that takes place these days. Whereas in Toronto, the distribution of extreme doom and funeral doom is not that great, Derek wanted to track down some funeral doom in Europe. After deciding on Scandinavia as his destination, he headed over with some serious metal shopping in mind.
Right at the top of his list was The Dawning Of Mournful Hymns, from which he had only heard The Epitome Of Gods And Men Alike, but from this he automatically knew the band would be a favourite! Others included: Shape Of Despair, Monolithe, Nortt and Worship.
Armed with this list, he then spent three weeks travelling through Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway, including "the grimmest, coldest place on Earth- Hammerfest . . . I can truly see where the inspiration for black metal came" said Derek.
He came upon The Dawning Of Mournful Hymns as well as a few others in Oslo, Norway. Although Worship and Nortt remained elusive, he came home with his quest fulfilled!
Now this kind of enthusiasm is a tale worth telling, and Mournful Congregation gives the doomiest hails to Derek and his quest, a quest for metal!
The second story centres on someone of the utmost importance in the ethereal world of the Mournful Congregation, that is Makoto.

Makoto has been instrumental in the release of the two Mournful Congregation releases thus far. His enthusiasm for all things doom, has brought forward two stunning jewels, of which he should be proud.
Makoto has also provided an outlet for fellow Cave inhabitants Cauldron Black Ram, re-releasing their eponymous debut Skulduggery to a wider audience. If that is not enough, he has also enabled Cave inhabitants Stargazer, of which TGRD is a member, the chance to tour his homeland this year, as part of their first overseas Occidentale Magicks tour. The picture, left, commemorates this momentous gathering of East-West, during the successful tour. So, Mournful Congregation is indebted to you, Makoto, a hard working and dedicated doom fiend! |
