Tears From A Grieving Heart (1999)

Even though I was sent only two songs from the Tears From A Grieving Heart demo, I think I should write a few words about them. The first one entitled Skyward Gaze, Earthward Touch is a very good doom/ death song, in the vein of old Anathema, but maybe slower. the melodies are very inspired and sorrowful, and the band shows its abilities in writing melancholic music. It has nothing to do with the so-called 'trendy' doom scene, you will not find keyboards, female vocals, violins and all that stuff here. The second one, Empirical Choirs, features only acoustic guitars and clear vocals, and is quite atmospheric. Not anything special, but it is enjoyable. If all the songs are as good as the first track I was sent, then I guess I'll love that band!! 7.5/ 10

Mournful Congregation
Tears From A Grieving Heart Promo 1998
At the moment of this review we still do not know if this collection of five songs is going to be, at last, the debut album (we hope so!) of the Australian gods. The five songs keep up the inimitable style of Mournful Congregation. Ultra slow, sad and melancholic doom. The album starts with the title track Tears From A Grieving Heart, which maybe lacks of some brilliance. But the following Opal Of The Stream Beneath The Hills compensates the first song and is the best song of the album. The other three songs: the full acoustic Empirical Choirs, Re-Memberance Of The Transcending Moon and Skyward Gaze, Earthward Touch are fine examples of this bands unique style. A style which has been enriched with more acoustic arrangements. This promo shows that Mournful Congregation is nowadays the best extreme doom band. And there is nothing more to say. Contact. . .
