JUMPING JOCKEY PROFILES

JOHN MACMILLAN

Date of Birth: 1 December 1965

Town where born: Gawler, South Australia.

How did you get into racing? Dad always took me to the races and my younger sister is a flat jockey. I also rode at the picnics.

First Winner/Track: Mr Wiggle / Murray Bridge.

Favourite Track (and why): Hamilton / Sandown. They both support jumping very well and I like to ride at both tracks.

Best thing about being a jumps rider: Being paid for doing something I like doing.

Worst thing about being a jumps rider: Occasional injuries / watching my weight.

Best jumper you’ve ridden: Glazinov.

Jumper you would like to have ridden: The Shu.

Outside of racing what are you most passionate about? Passion is a strong word. I have many likes, but not many which I am passionate. In fact, I'm not passionate about racing.

What are your riding career goals? As always, do what I do as well as I can.

What will you do after your riding career is over? "The world is round, so we cannot see what's ahead."

What is the strangest (amusing or serious) experience you’ve ever had in racing?

It is difficult to choose, because in racing the unexpected occurs so often.

Would you like to tell us something about your fammily (partner, children, parents etc.)?

My mum, dad, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, 4 neices and one nephew. My whole family is terrific. I am very proud of all of them.
