| The National Library "Kadimah" was founded in 1911 and has served the cultural and intellectual needs of the vibrant, Jewish migrant community of Melbourne. For over five decades it was located close to that community in the inner suburb of Carlton. In the 1960's , following the gradual shift of the Jewish population south and east of the city, the "Kadimah" moved to its present location in Elsternwick and it has been consolidating and expanding its library ever since. | ![]() |
| The "Kadimah" also publishes a bilingual Yiddish-English literary journal. The Yiddish section the "Melburner Bleter" is edited by writer-broadcaster Moishe Ajzenbud and the English section, the "Melbourne Chronicle", is currently edited by Alex Dafner. In the past the "Kadimah" has published three "Australian Jewish Almanacs" and more recently "The History of the Dovid Herman Theatre at the Kadimah". |
