'The May Report' - Katangas Inaugural Shabbos Lunch Last Shabbos Parshas Vayishlach was a Shabbos like no other. Throughout the proceeding week people were looking forward to it with great anticipation - it was of course, the first Caulfield Beth Hamederash Annual Luncheon. The Katanga office had been overwhelmed as registrations flooded in and over 130 people keenly not only davened at Shule but also stayed on to lunch with other mispallelim. Throughout daveneing, the excitement kept on building as the enlarged Kiddish area became more and more inviting. In fact by Mussaf some had already abandoned Shule and seated themselves at the tables in immense expectation. Not only was the catered lunch enjoyed by all, young and old alike, and partaken in a festive and haymishe atmosphere, all were inspired and enthralled by Rabbi Yonason Abraham. In his Dvar Torah/Drasha he stated how Katanga was the envy of all other Shules and he could see for himself and realised how special and treasured Caulfield Beth HaMederash really is. Rabbi Abraham spoke of the eternal threat the Jewish people have faced both in a physical and spiritual sense. After more food, Aaron Walles then led the singing of nigunim and zemiros. Everyone who attended enjoyed themselves immensely and treasured the occasion to spend Shabbos lunch with so many other Katanga members. Many thanks must go to the Committee of the Shul and in particular to Hymie Katz who led the organising of the event.
