A few months ago Jeni Binden from SSWAHS called me and explained that she had some funding available, would we be interested in a cycling beginners course in Macarthur, you bet we were!. Jeni organised it and organised Matt Geale of Soular Energy to coach the group. Despite a 35 Deg day the course went ahead. It was a full class with some students having almost no cycling skills at all. A number had driven across Sydney to participate in the courser. Matt taught the basics, how to get on and off, how to start pedalling, braking, balance, turning then signalling, riding in two's and so on. Then came the gears, why, when and how to change. This was followed by a ride along the Camden Cycleway as a group then back to the beginning for lunch. After luch some of the students rode through Camden, up the hills past the church and along Broughton Street near Camden hospital. Up and down the hills with Robyn exclaiming "I don't need this one". Back onto the Camden Cycleway then back to the start. The course started at 9 am and the final ride at 2.30. Everyone without exception stated that they didn't realise there was so much to learn and how enjoyable it had been. There was a great response to the initial publicity so Jeni has created a list for 2007 for those who couldn't make it on the day. In addition Jeni has a list for mums during the week earmarked for 2007. There will also be a follow up "Commuter" course taught by Matt in 2007, let your finger dothe work and call Matt on 0412 952 626
