The Executive Committee have been hard working and very supportive and it has been a privilege to work with them again. The Pennant Fixtures Booklet continues to grow and the invitation to all clubs or members to contribute to this booklet by way of advertising is again extended this year. My special thanks to those who supported the booklet last year. The SSTA again enjoyed a wonderful season ending Windup and Presentation evening and although numbers were down on the previous year, Im sure those who attended enjoyed the function. My thanks to Darryl Maxwell for his organisation of the event and to those who assisted to make the evening run so smoothly. On behalf of the Executive Committee and all members of the SSTA, I congratulate Mr Graham Murray who was awarded Life Membership at last years AGM. May I take this opportunity to thank all the executive committee for their dedication throughout the year. Peter Kepa has continued to display a professional approach to the Recording duties and maintenance of the web site. Fiona Turner has again been faultless with the management of our finance and to our newest member, Jean Love for taking on the Secretarial duties shortly after the season commenced. Thanks also to the Vice Presidents, Jim Fletcher and John Cockburn and committee, Darryl Maxwell, and Debbie Caruana. I welcome the new committee and wish everyone an enjoyable 2008-2009 tennis season AUDITORS REPORT: As tabled FINANCIAL REPORT: As per Auditors Both reports were Accepted: Peter Galbraith (Bullcreek) Seconded: Carlene Wakefield (Parkwood) RECORDING OFFICERS REPORT: As read by Peter Kepa I have the pleasure to report that the last season saw the significant reduction in the number of infringements recorded as well as the number of emergency requests and late nominations. 487 players making up 29 teams from 18 clubs took part in the competition this season and enjoyed them selves representing their respective clubs. This represents a decrease of 37 players and decrease of 3 teams and of 1 club as compared to the previous season. The book is continuing to improve with the addition of the listing all the Life Members of the Association to the book for season 2007/2008. It is hoped that the book will be even bigger and better for the 2008/2009 season. The Website is extremely popular source of information during the season. It was a great pleasure to once again present the Most Valuable Player Awards at the Wind up dinner at the end of the season. Congratulations to all the Winners and Finalists. Once again I would like to express my thanks to all the team Contacts and Captains, the Executive especially President Rob Bellis for his tireless support the season. RECOMMENDATIONS: That Phill Fulker be considered for Life Membership of the Association Rob Bellis spoke on behalf of the recommendation. Phill Fulker joined the SSTA during the 1981 season as Treasurer working with Damien Cole, Shirley Wallace, Irene Carpenter & Graham Murray. He held the position for 3 years. Competition was held in two separate sections Mens & Ladies five week competition from October/November singles & doubles. This was followed by our ten week mixed competition through summer. On Damiens retirement Phill was elected as President in the 1983 season and held the position for ten years. The major changes during this time were to remove five week competition, extend the ten week to a fifteen week competition and introduce the current format which is now played by the Tennis Seniors. Our other achievements was to invite New clubs to the association, Mandurah, Kwinana, Pignatelli, Maylands & Belmonts (return), which was needed to keep the Association moving ahead. Although not playing South Suburban these days, Phill keeps an eye on what is going on from season to season. Phil recognises that a lot of people have made the association what it is to-day. Damien Cole, Shirley Wallace, Irene Carpenter and later Rob Bellis and Graham Murray have all been honoured with life membership rightly so. Phills dedication and commitment to the Association over the years has been tireless and it is with pleasure that I speak on behalf of this recommendation for Phills Life Membership.
