Courses

Alchemy 1

Let your destructive nature to the fore and join us for a day where we transform the mundane into 'pure gold'. Using paint, vliesafix, xpandaprint, magic foil, embossing powders, inks, paper, beads and scraps, (oh and some fabric) we will stamp, stencil, burn, melt and singe like a true alchemist!

Alchemy 2

Even more surfaces to stitch on and power tools to play with!  A day of exploration and possibilities using vanishing muslin, metal shim, dissolvable fabric, paperclay and of course, the sewing machine! Start collecting now- leaves, twigs, shells ( not snails- unfortunately too fragile) aluminium can rings, beer cans (empty), chocolate wrappers and polyfiller. Students can expect to go home with separate samples or an 'Assemblage' and ideas for  further development.

Unearthed Create a surface reminiscent of an archaeological dig in this day of exploration. As age upon age has enhanced the beauty of everyday objects, so shall we. Working in layers and using a variety of media we will develop a workable surface that can only have been unearthed
Mad Play Day A special manic play-day for the  mad month of May.  This will be serious fun so come prepared to play hard.  If you’ve had ideas that you want to try then this is the opportunity to test them out with like minded mad scientists
Silk Sensation Explore the possibilities to create unique and intricate surfaces on silk using a variety of mediums.
Silk Paper Making

A day of play! We make several pieces of silk paper and explore the different surfaces and uses that can be achieved with this versatile and luscious medium. (See Australian Paper Arts magazine 18#)

Machine Embroidery 1

A class for beginners or those wanting to explore the creative possibilities of their sewing machine.  Needles, threads, tension, stitches and techniques are explored in this 'hands on' workshop.

Machine Embroidery 2

Dissolvable fabric, wire, twigs, paper and metal- what can't we stitch on or with?

Sophistacat

A collaboration between you and the 'grandmasters of the art world' could only mean one thing- a very sophisticated puss. Gain inspiration from the likes of Klimt, Kandinsky, Monet or even Van Gogh and create a cat worthy of any gallery setting. Paint, stamp, stitch, bead, gild and bejewel him, he's bound to take on a life of his own.

Design Workshop

This is for anyone unsure of where or how to start designing their own textiles and for those looking for a fresh approach to the 'mysterious, magical process of design'. This one day workshop will inspire and motivate, adding new dimensions and originality to your work. Students will be guided through the process of design using their own source of inspiration as a starting point for stitch.

Spirit Cloth

Create a cloth inspired by symbolism or imagery personal to you using dye, discharge/resist, paint and foiling techniques. Learn to apply sheer and textural layers through stamping, stencilling, printing, hand painting and stitch. Suspend your cloth from the ceiling, turn it into a quilt or wear it as a wrap or garment.

The truth about pyramids

Stitch a pyramid of diminutive proportions to house your own treasures in using silk paper ,creative machine embroidery, beads, wire and other embellishing techniques.
