My love for Dolphins has been with me most of my life. When I was a small child and people would often asked me "if you were an animal what would you like to be?" ( this question is sometimes asked of you when you are a child), I remember saying that I wanted to be a Dolphin, "why a Dolphin?" they would invariably ask. I had my standard, but honest reply, "because they are so intelligent, and  they are free".

It has also been one of my passions in life to be able to swim with them and hopefully be able make that special unique contact with them. I have heard so many amazing stories over the years about people with varying kinds of disabilities, and their extraordinary encounters with Dolphins.

It has been reported that Dolphins somehow have a sixth sense and instinctively know that there are 'problems', and make allowances, this has been proven by their behaviour at the time of the encounter. It is said that both children and adults who are intellectually challenged, Dolphins have been known to somehow communicate with them, lessen aggression and stimulate certain parts of their brain.

I have been a very proud sponsor of the 'Adopt-a-Dolphin' project, which is run by the Dolphin Research Institute here in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne. The Institute provides protection for dolphins and studies the threats that affect their well being. I have sponsored this Project now for ten years.

If you would like some more information about the Dolphin Research Institute and the 'Adopt-a-Dolphin' project please click  the link below. I have found my ten years of sponsorship to be extremely rewarding and makes me feel that I am doing in my own small way something to help protect these most amazing creatures.

For all you out there who are reading this now, please when you  are out at Sea, or in the Bays anywhere in this great World of ours, to please be mindful of our beautiful Dolphins, don't litter our waters  so that they become entangled in our 'waste', make sure  your fishing lines and hooks are not left in the water for them to injure themselves with, so many Dolphins are now injured by thoughtless boat-owners, one of the 'new' major threats to them is jet-skies. Please I urge you to be mindful of our Dolphins and in so doing help protect the other beautiful creatures of the Sea.

I have always felt that sometimes 'we' humans are extremely arrogant when it comes to the well-being of all animals. Why do  we seem to think that we humans who are in my 'book of life' "human animals", (I do not use the word animals here as any kind of derogatory term), assume that we are the only creatures on this planet that have a right to be respected. All animals on this planet are here for their own specific purpose (as we are), and it is not for the human species to impose their will to the detriment of other creatures of this planet.
