Music on Magnetic 5th-12th May 2012

our program

You will have the pleasant task of choosing between ten different streams of classes along with jam sessions, documentaries and musical tasters. The main focus is on singing, dancing, guitar and percussion, but there is plenty of choice for everyone. Almost all are good for beginners.

Pacific Islands a cappella (Beat Lehmann) Indulge yourself and learn some of the sweetest sounding melodies on the planet.  And don’t forget your guitar or ukulele if you have one.

Arranging for songwriters (Kristina Olsen) Turn your lovely words and melodies into innovative and surprising arrangements that lift them above the ordinary.

Bollywood dancing (Parvyn Singh) Get ready to shake your hips, twirl your hands and make lots of noise while learning this fun and energetic choreography

Macedonian dance band (Linsey Pollak) Welcome to all the pleasure and passion of Balkan music.  Get on top of unusual time signatures, 7/8, 13/8 and even 4/4 - and learn to dance.

Body percussion (Greg Sheehan) Explore the world of syncopated beats by clapping, walking, and discovering the wonderful sounds you can make using the cavities and solids of your body.

Slide guitar (Kristina Olsen) (Intermediate and advanced guitarists) Come learn the sexy, seductive sound of the slide guitar! We'll focus mostly on blues played in open tunings.

Harmonizing (Beat Lehmann) Learn how to use to great effect the instrument that everyone can play, the voice.  Create harmonies from different singing traditions in any way that your imagination leads.

Drum nature (Greg Sheehan) A rhythmic journey, finding surprising sounds in everyday objects. The course culminates in performances linking with the natural environment.

Vocal spirit (Parvyn Singh) Techniques leading you to spiritual concentration and enlightenment.  Participate by using simple vocal techniques, scales, hymns and chanting from the Sikh tradition.

Music lab (Linsey Pollak) Use live looping to improvise. It's as simple as counting 1,2,3,4; it's about organizing sound in any way you want; and it's about relaxing into your music and enjoying yourself.
