The figure in brackets in the class column is prizemoney in thousands. Figures underlined and in bold indicate the fastest overall, last 600 or early sectional for a particular distance on the day while the columns to the right of those highlighted in blue indicate differences between races of the same distance. “sdiff” represents a comparison of early sectionals with 0.00 being the fastest, and these figures are used to judge the early pace. “class” is a numerical rating used to adjust the “final” time rating with 0.00 representing the best time on the day. “turns” is an adjustment in seconds which may be applied to “final” to allow for the track configuration. (E)lectronic or (M)anual timing is indicated in the right-most column.

The above example is an analysis of Rosehill barrier trials on October 12. “adiff” represents adjusted times after sectionals are taken into account, with 0.00 being the fastest adjusted time on the day.

Sectional times for trials are sourced from Owen Burrows’ outstanding publication “The Midweeker”. I wouldn’t be without it and find its stablemate “Pictureform” invaluable as well. Look for details at www.midweeker.com.au

Michael Smidt Racing Photos supply excellent quality 600m and finish photos for metropolitan and provincial meetings.
