| ARBEQUINA Origin: Catalonia - Spain ![]() Use: Oil Production It is among the best known Spanish varieties The tree's reduced vigor makes it highly suitable for use in the Super High Density plantations. The symmetrical shape of the tree allows for mechanization of pruning and harvesting. This variety is characteirsed by an early flowering and ripening of the fruit. Most Arbequina trees would start producing fruit only after 2 years of planting* - *Provided the environmental conditions are favorable and the orchards are properly managed. Arbequina Oil: The oils of this variety stand out as being fruity, sweet, with apple scent, green grass, and almond aromas. The delicate oils are more susceptible to oxidation, making it necessary to keep then a cool place under nitrogen blanket to ensure their protection in time, though in most cases the oils are blended with more robust oils which make them highly suitable as a base oil for belnding. Since ancient times, these oils have been prized for their quality, although production often has wide swings due to weather conditions. Extra Virgin Arbequina Oil are fluid and vary greatly from one area to another and within the same area in subsequent years. When you start harvesting, the olives are very green and this characteristic is reflected in the organoleptic profile of the oils. Therefore, they have balanced attributes with green flavors (green grass), pungent at the start of the campaign, and sweeter in the end. KORONEIKI Origin: Crete - Greece ![]() Use: Oil Production This variety
originally cultivated on the plains, lower hillsides and
coastal areas of Crete, where the climate is relatively
warm. It adapts well in Super High Density orchards and
comes into production early (second leaf). The fruit is
very small, averaging only 1 to 2 grams. The yield is high
and production is consistent year to year. It ripens late
in the season approximately 2 to 3 weeks after Arbequina. The oil quality is exceptionally good in that it expresses a sweet and fruity flavor. The April 1995 edition of Olivae (International Olive Oil Council magazine) calls this variety “among the best in the world”. This cultivar is suitable for late, premium oil ARBOSANA Origin: - Spain Use: Oil Production This newly
commercialized variety boasts low vigor and high p The typical fructification of the Arbosana variety is in big clusters resembling grapes. Because of its good agronomic features, this clone is having great success in some areas such as Provence (France), and it is spreading very fast. In the US this variety is producing consistent crops every year. The oil yield is high, 54.26% against dry matter and 21-24% fresh weight. The oil of this variety is high in polyphenol content and low proportion in Linoleic acid; this makes it very stable, ideal to blend with other oils. Its oil has a strong character and expresses fruity, fresh grass aromas with a slightly bitter and peppery finish.
